Ukranian ferries work in that line. I guess twice a week
The trip is very troublesome and takes 2 days.
Reservation thing is risky and bad. Ukranian agencies sell tickets only in Ukraine.

I would recommend traveling by land across Moldova, Romania, and Bulgaria...especially by rail! It takes longer, but it's a great experience. I'm afraid I've never had the experiece of traveling from Odessa to Istanbul by ship. Also, I would recommend hitchhiking. It's inexpensive and it's fun.
