You're asking about FLDS and not LDS, right? Mormons stopped practicing polygamy in the 19th century.
My answer is, I don't think so. The fundamentalists are a minority in Utah. And they are already in a bunch of trouble with the US. (Especially their leader Warren Jeffs, I think he's on the FBI top ten most wanted list). My opinion is that the Fundamentalists would not be able to make a seperate state because they break US law. And they can't win fights because they are such a small group.
Besides that, I think most Utahns would be outraged at the idea that Utah would ever become a polygamous state. They wouldn't support the minority who would want to seperate.

Do you honestly think that Utah would WANT to seperate and form a fundamentalist state? I am Mormon, and this is just an absurd prospect. We are law-abiding citizens that do not wish to do anything of the sort.

Utah made the choice when it applied for statehood. The US wouldn't allow Utah into the union if it allowed polygamy. During the 1870s and 1880s, laws were passed to punish polygamists, and in the 1890 Manifesto, the LDS Church finally agreed to ban polygamy. When Utah applied for statehood again, it was accepted. One of the conditions for granting Utah statehood was that a ban on polygamy be written into the state constitution. This was a condition required of other western states that were admitted into the Union later. Statehood was officially granted on January 4, 1896.

All of Utah is not Mormon....and more importantly most of Utah is not even part of the group(s) that want to branch off. A more plausible question would be: Will a part of Utah ever attempt to separate from the USA?

What a dumb question. DO you even realize that 50% of Utahans are not LDS? DO you know that more Mormons live in California than in Utah? Do you realize that there are more Mormons outside of the US than in it? Maybe all those Mormons will start their own fundamentalist country, and attack the US, and put us all into servitude. Get a life.

Its against the law for a state to seced from the Union. There would be a civil war, and the other 49 states vastly outnumber Utah.

If it did, I'm gonna sell my house to some crazy Mormon moving in from out of state and get the hell out of this place. (And I am Mormon...just not active or fundamentalist by any stretch.)
Salt Lake City is only about 12% active LDS. Another 30% inactives like myself who are far from the fundamentalist mindset. That leaves over 60% who aren't.
Get over your ignorance people.

I lived there for 30 years and it pretty much already has, just not technically. By the way Dave have you ever been to Happy Valley (Provo)? Guaranteed the percentage of active members is a heck of a lot higher than 12%.

I am so sick of people saying that we still practice polygamy! That's not so!
12 WE BELIEVE in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.
It's against the law to practice polygamy, therefore (drumroll, please) We don't! And even if it wasn't against the law, I seriously doubt that we still would.
And Utah will never break away from the US. That is absolutely rediculous.
