It means you leave your job - usually compulsory - and you do no work for a given amount of time. It comes from the idea that you are meant to go home and do some gardening

Gardening Leave Meaning

You do not have to be sacked to get gardening leave! It normally occurs when you have a contract and each side has to give , say, 3 months notice. However, you are leaving your job to go to work for a competitor. To stop you taking sensitive information, you cannot work for your employer but, because of your contract, they cannot tell you to leave their employment but not earn any money, so they have to pay you for your notice period. You are not allowed to contact any of your previous customers - and often nobody from your old company either. Basically, you are being paid to stay at home and do nothing! This is 'gardening leave' - as that is all you are supposed to do!

If you have been given gardening leave, you are not suspended as you have done nothing wrong!

I hope that helps!

It generally means u are suspended from work with pay. It comes from you being at home when you would be in work but have nothing to do but tend your garden.

Gardening leave is a less formal way of telling you that you have been suspended from your post pending an enquiry.

Means: can't sack you outright, put you out of sight until they can. Probably comes from Prescott removing various staff members from his office !
