Webster defines ignorance as:
The condition of being uneducated, unaware, or uninformed. Also, the lack of knowledge or education.
Therefore, when I hear people referring to people they don't know as being ignorant, often the person is incorrect in making such a diagnosis of someone as he/she doesn't know what the person actually knows or doesn't know. An educated person always attempts to fairly judge someone. A person can tell the world about their education level by making just a few statements, such as calling someone ignorant when in fact, he/she doesn't know. Then that person could be called ignorant because he/she doesn't know what he/she is talking about. But I will tell you ignorance will always live on because there's tons of people that will always make snap judgments unfairly.

Ignorance1) is a lack of knowledge. Ignorance is also a "state of being ignorant" or unaware/uninformed. Ex: "In debate class Bill lost the debate because he was ignorant in (without knowledge of) that subject."
(pejorative definition) Ignorance2) is the choice to not act or behave in accordance with what is popular/acceptable in order to suit ones own needs/beliefs."I know better but I choose to ignore that and do/say/act in a way that behooves me."

ignorance is noy a lack of knowledge as most folks think. Dumb or stupid people are not ignorant, they just don't know anything. Ignorance is rather a willful choice not to show a care or perhaps act as if you don't know.

Ignorant means it's not the fault of the person being called ignorant, that person did'nt have the correct information available to them to allow them to be informed! as opposed to stupid, which means that person would know something was the wrong thing to do, and do it anyway! as opposed to crazy , in which case the person would keep doing stupid things over and over and beliving they would get a different outcome.

It's when you just don't know something. Not necessarily a bad thing... like when a child is ignorant of where babies come from, or why the sky is blue, etc.
