I posted this question before and got nowhere, but perhaps I just posted it under the wrong category:

About a yr ago i was listening to Loveline and Dr. Drew was talking about how the caller (female) was putting on kind of a baby voice and just as he was about to explain why some girls do this, the storm that was passing cut off the power and i never heard the rest!
I have recently been thinking about this because of a cast member on Real World right now, who normally has a kind of low voice for a woman, often puts on a little girl voice whenever she is in a situation she doesn't like.
Does anyone have an educated answer or can answer from experience?

I have heard of this before. They do it so they are not harshly treated and often to get their own way. It is often to people in authority and men, just as a little girl would try and sweet talk their way around their father.

Either she is a good showperson or she is suffering from some sort of multiple personality disorder. MPD is very rare though and usually it is some form of affectation connected with another disorder.

My daughter does that...she is 16...it is soooo irritating. I think she does it because she thinks it will get her what she wants. Sympathy, her way, or whatever...she is the eldest and maybe she thinks its her way of leveling the playing field with my youngest daughter a 6 year old. I don't like it...it's not cute at all.

yep, People who are a bit insecured about themselves and who are low on the confidence level often do this, They put on a girly voice to impress upon people the need to do thier bidding, its more often a lure.

Little girls get more sympathy and don't need to be as responsible as adult women.
The act works.

could be multiple personality disorder for some of them , or just regression , regression is where they take on how they used to act as children in an undesirable circumstance since they dont know how to handle it as an adult.

I'm afraid I can't, but the obvious would be her state of mind is that she is a child and therefore acts and talks like one.

there are women and girls that think the baby voice and /or tears will get them anything they want,I suspect they were spoiled brats as children!
