That's not healthy. Sleeping at night is different from sleeping in a different time. But if your work schedule requires you to be awake during those hours, then you don't have anything to do but to adjust.

The younger you are the more sleep you need for heathy growth and hormonal balances. This is why the elderly awake so much during the night and are still up at the crack of dawn. Too much sleep doesn't shorten life span per say. You will probably live just as long, you'll just sleep through it. So can definately cause decrease in the quality of life. I say I can sleep when I die.

I've been through that. I LOVE to sleep but I'm a night owl. My mother says I've always been that way --I can be dead exhausted but i just get wide awake at around 11 p.m. If i try to get to sleep before that, then i wake up at 1 in the morning.
I have discovered that the longer i sleep the more tired i am when i wake up and it's hard to function. I try not to sleep more than 8 hours. 9 if my husband says he'll get up with the kids. ;)

sleeping too much isnt a problem. however a medical problem may be causing your oversleeping. i used to sleep 12 hours a day when i suffered from depression for example.
