This website will allow you to look up pills by imprints on the pills themselves, etc. The one you describe appears to be a combination of Tylenol and another opiate (a form of Darvon essentially). Pain medications are not meant to be skipped if they are to be effective unless they are PRN which is to be taken as needed for pain. Prior answer is a good one as to competency but I'd be inclined to call the doctor or pharmacy to inquire about the actual need/use for the med. Sometimes elderly people are simply being difficult and need attention. It is also possible that your relative just does not like the side effects. Opiates are nasty. Good luck.

It's a pain reliever called Darvocet. It's a brand name for mild narcotic analgesic drug which combines Acetaminophen and Propoxy or Propoxyphene, prescribed for the relief of mild to moderate pain, with or without fever.

Since it's usually dosed as PRN then it probably won't be an issue if he does not take it, but check with his Doctor first.

If he's mentally competent and he says he knows what it's for, I'd let him skip it -- but don't let him just skip pills for the heck of it, only if it's meant to be skipped if he doesn't have pain.

Try this site on for size: It's a pill identifyer and it's a very handy tool. I'm curious to know exactly what the drug he want to skip is.
