btw my parrot now eats watever i give him.. that includes apples, pears, capsicum, gauva, soaked chana.. its so nice to see him holding ti in his claws n eating his fruits, nd peeling the chana throwing the skin nd eating the inside.
hes cooled down alot nd he does not mind me near him, he hurries to luk in his feeding bowl the moment i put my hands in his cage..
ya he still tries to bite but its not that much..

oh nd btw guys who said abt leaving him to fly.. i think u have no idea abt birds being territorial n if u set them free in a new place it will be attacked by other birds like crows vultures..

I have Had an Amazon parrot for several years. He is healthy and happy most of the time. If he gets diarrhoea, we smash hot chilies in his water. Works well, also works well on chickens, lol.We feed him standard parrot food from the store. Easy on the sunflower seeds: they're addictive to birds. His favorite treat food is pizza with lots of toppings and mattar paneer with lots of chilies. Name: we named ours Gathuku, which means parrot in the African Kikuyu language. Use your imagination. No quick way to train a parrot. They need lots of love and attention and take quite a bit of your time. They really do live a long time, so be sure to make provisions for him in your will. (Seriously) *DO NOT* turn him loose. He is a domestic animal who would have no idea how to survive on his own, any more than a young child would. Hope some of this is helpful. With a lot of love and a little luck, you'll have a friend for life!

First of all - be patient!! Birds are sensitive creatures!
For food - fresh fruits and vegges with dry store brand that has the vitamins he needs. Check out some parrott websites that include his breed. Google his breed or put 'ring neck parrott' in your search engine.
Feeding a bird a certain food will not make it talk sooner!! Patience and persistence and alot of love! Make sure he has a safe place where he feels comfortable...drape a towel over half the cage so he can retreat if he feels threatened - do this for the first few days and gradually take it away altogether.
He's probably feeling pretty overwhelmed - new surroundings, strange place, new people to adjust to....don't rush and don't get frustrated.
good luck

Why did you get a male parrot in the first place? Ofcourse, it is going to be territorial. Give them regular bird food. I heard you may have to take him to the vet., so that they can remove his togue. Seriously, that way after the tongue healed he can start making that almost utterance noise. When you train them to talk, instead of chirping, he'll realized he can make sounds just like you do. So he'll try to copy what you say to him. When you tell him to say something, give him some bird seed or something, similar to training animals. Weird, huh? Intelligent animals, fishes, birds, reptiles all are trained exactly the same way. Except you don't train your parrot to go fetch some thing or to sit or roll over like a dog. you train them like you already know something about birds. Make sense?

A good well-balanced diet is readily accepted by the Indian Ringneck. Lots of fresh vegetables and fruits are enjoyed daily. Dandelion greens, spinach, chard, romaine lettuce and broccoli are all good sources of vitamins and minerals. Apples, oranges, grapes, peaches, pears, pomegranates, are just a few of the many fruits the ringneck will enjoy. Zucchini, peas, green beans, yam, carrot and corn on the cob are just a few of the many nutritious vegetables that should be fed. Pasta, rice and bean mixes add good protein and carbohydrate sources. The use of one or more pelleted diet will help assure the intake of needed vitamins and minerals. Many of the commercial parrot and cocktail mixes contain a nice mixture of seeds that the birds will relish. Peanuts and almonds are known to be favorite treats. They like diversity in what they eat. Change their choices daily for variety.
As for a name for your new bird, well you can call it Ringo, Zizo, Ricky,Bibi...

name it sparky
u can feed him fruits and some bird food
well about green chillies its just a myth. u have to make him learn some easy words in beginning like your name for instance or the parrots name whatever u keep it. once u start calling the parrot by name he may grasp it.
try chana not the soaked one .try the dry one or the roasted one u get from the shops
u can also give him some peanuts with its shell so that he can open it up by himself.

i had an african grey parrot. i only had him for about 5 months . he was just a baby. but we had him in the garage and somehow something came in a took him away. some animal. we have no idea :(

i still cry to this day.

some advice is to NEVER feed it avacados. NEVER. and they do like peppers. also dont give it a lot of peanutes, or nuts in general because it makes them fat or something. sunflower seeds also fattning i think.

goodluck with your parrot and keep a close eye on it.

by the way, my birds name was Pepe' so maybe you can name your bird after mine if you like to.
