I am not talking about the juice they now sell at health food stores, I am asking how the actual fruit tastes.

I have eaten both several times. To the Western taste and smell, durian may not be an acceptable fruit. But to myself and many Asians it is the King of Fruits. In Malaysia a man asked me what other fruit would a person travel 50 miles for. I absolutely love the taste of durian.I have had durian cakes, frappes, rolls, mooncakes, ice cream, milk shakes, candies and even durian fried rice in a Singapore Hotel.

Durian smell bad (not to me anymore) Some say it is like eating ice cream in a public toliet.

But in places like Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, The Philippines,it is often the most loved fruit. You acquire a taste for it and often become addicted to its unique deliciousness.

It is hard to decribe the taste ; depends also on if it is D24, Golden Plillow, Xo or other varieties. At times it tastes like it has a garlic after taste. ANyway, I love it!!!!!

Mangosteen would be much more acceptable to the Western palate.it is good, tastes sweet and succulent. Often eaten after eating durian as durian makes the body hot and mangosteens cool it down. While durian is the King, many consider mangosteen to be the Queen.

I am one of few white people I have ever met that love durian.

any more questions please ask

Clearly you're not an Asian! Durian is said to be a foul-smelling seasonal fruit but it taste delicous whereas a mangosteen taste like hmm... I can't describe to you. You have to taste it for yourself. You can go to countries like Singapore or Malaysia during the fruits season & have a splendid time eating! But beware though, you might come down with a sore throat or even fever if you take too much of durian cos' these fruit is "heaty" while mangosteen is not really recommended for asthmatic people.

I do both. Durian is very hot after you ate it. The taste is actually good but it's not healthy. When u eat Durian after that u'd better eat Mangosteen cause it's cold fruit. I don't know but it's true. Anyway, I hate Durian because of the smell and the fat u'll get.

Durian tastes sooo good despite its odd smell that makes it unpopular to most people. Unpopular in the sense that, just the smell of it can drive people away or even cause some to double over. It really lives up to its description as the fruit that "tastes like heaven but smells like hell." Unless you can tolerate the smell, you can never eat it and enjoy its sweet and sometimes, slightly bitter flavor depending on how ripe it is.

Mangosteen on the otherhand does not share the pungent smell of durian. But it equally tastes good, with a combination of sour and sweet taste, again depending on how ripe it is.

I cannot really fully put into words the exact taste of both. You have to actually try them to really know. Who knows, you might get to love them.

durians are generally sweet with a slight bitter after taste at the end. its the smell that puts people off. its the 'king of friuts' where i come from so its really highly rated over here.

mangosteens are just plain sweet with a acidic tatse. the pulp is super juicy. but be careful. if the juice from the husk stains any clothing, its gonna be there for a long time.

I bought a can of mangosteen in light syrup, and to my surprise it looks, tastes and smells like garlic in syrup. The texture inside of cloves of mangosteens is exactly like garlic. What a shocker!
