Sounds as believable as the real bible to me. I mean a man wrote the bible too.

there are certainly some shocking possibilities. granted, the book is fiction, but it is based on some solid research.
while there is really no way to prove (or disprove) any of it, the fact remains that there is plenty of evidence (evidence, not proof) that supports the basic premise that jesus was married to the magdalen. i would recomend to you the book "holy blood, holy grail" - i've finished it recently and it is basically an account of the research that has led to the theory behind the da vinci code. there is a lot of speculation involved, but this theory sure makes a lot more sense than any other i've heard so far.
as for the truth... well, until we can finally time travel back to jesus' lifetime, we'll never know.

The shocking truth in the Da Vinci Code is how gullible people are and how one author can claim that the basic facts given in his book are well researched and established when he either knows nothing about the basic facts or is a flat-out liar.

I think Bruce Almighty has more truth in it than the DA Vinci Code, although the Dan Brown did write an excellent book.

The Da Vinci Code movie brings about division... to test the faith of those who say they are God's people, who say they believe in the Lord Jesus.
If they truly believe in the Lord, they will also believe/accept that His words are truth.
God allowed the Da Vinci Code movie to come about, for the purpose of dividing the chaff from the wheat (divide the goats from the sheep)... the true believers from the hypocrites.
It was proven on TBN ministries that the Da Vinci Code movie was based on books that were found by a murderous-spirited man & that the books were written according to muslim beliefs... the ones who are haters of Christ, those who want to deface (ruin the image of) Christ.

Hollywood intends to re-write history but one only needs to research for themselves the validity of the claims. For example the quality of the New Testament documents can be validated outside of the Bible through the research of Josephus Flavius, Tacitus, Caesar's Gallic Wars, Herodotus, and Thucydides. In fact there are 5366 documents discovered so far to validate that the Bible we have today is 99.5% as accurate as it was way back then. For example:
The first-century Jewish historian Josephus referred to the stoning of “James, the brother of Jesus who was called the Christ.” (The Jewish Antiquities, Josephus, Book XX, sec. 200) A direct and very favorable reference to Jesus, found in Book XVIII, sections 63, 64, has been challenged by some who claim that it must have been either added later or embellished by Christians; but it is acknowledged that the vocabulary and the style are basically those of Josephus, and the passage is found in all available manuscripts.
Tacitus, a Roman historian who lived during the latter part of the first century C.E., wrote: “Christus [Latin for “Christ”], from whom the name [Christian] had its origin, suffered the extreme penalty during the reign of Tiberius at the hands of one of our procurators, Pontius Pilatus.”—The Complete Works of Tacitus (New York, 1942), “The Annals,” Book 15, par. 44.
With reference to early non-Christian historical references to Jesus, The New Encyclopædia Britannica states: “These independent accounts prove that in ancient times even the opponents of Christianity never doubted the historicity of Jesus, which was disputed for the first time and on inadequate grounds by several authors at the end of the 18th, during the 19th, and at the beginning of the 20th centuries.”—(1976), Macropædia, Vol. 10, p. 145.
Internal evidence is pretty clear as well. 2 Peter 3:15-16 clearly states that the canon was already in the process of being collected for what we have today in the Bible. There were gnostic books but they were not accepted because they were written by Hellenistic writers that intended to change the original message of the Greek translation to imply that Jesus was not the Son of God.

The greatest revelation in it has been overlooked by almost everybody. The debate seems only to revolve around the question of whether or not Jesus had an intimate romantic relationship with Mary Magdalene, and it goes on ad nauseum, however, a key idea of the book is its suggestion that the imbalance between the Sacred Masculine and the Sacred Feminine in our modern culture, promulgated by its major religions, has created human unrest on many levels. It's a good book. Read it and see for yourself. Don't take mine or anyone else's word as truth. Explore.
There are, incidentally, many people who will tell you not to believe anything you read in this book because they're scared not to believe something in another book, The Bible, but I assure you, Dan Brown did better work on his book, and it's better written. The Bible was written by too many authors, its books were selected by political men centuries ago, and it's been edited by the likes of King James, so whatever it was, it isn't now.

Yes, most of it is true, according to Dan Brown, the author, there is even a disclaimer in the book that states all said facts are true. What Dan Brown did was mix facts about the true "Jesus Christ" in with a fast paced storyline. He basically took the main truths about the mythical figure and placed them into the book The DaVinci Code. The supposedly shocking truth is that there are living descendants of Jesus around today.

for a non-catholic like me, the Da Vinci Code is just another story book like Bible.
The bottomline is to take back home only the good and leave the rest, irrespective of whether its a religious or fictional book.
But sure, its no shock even for catholics, coz everyone knows the Church had once been a tyranny.

Is there truth? Sure there is.
Is it shocking? Not to anyone who has read about the history of Christianity.
Dan Brown used theories and facts (with a healthy dose of artistic license) that have been around for decades, if not centuries.
