I'm sure they have more than we know...there just hasn't been that much exploration...until recently of course. Their vast interior and coastal regions are ripe for the picking. Currently, they produce a little under 4 million barrels a day, about half the production of the United States...and they are actually not using all of this, like their money, they are saving it for future use. Right now, about 70% of their energy is through burning coal...for those of you that have been there you know how bad the air can be sometimes. Their largest natural resources are currently coal and natural gas. In the meantime, they are securing oil sources around the world.....why? Their growing economy demands it and with China's growing middle-class (expected to be 200+ million in 2010) they have a desire for what most Americans have.....cars!!
There is no doubt what disasterous environmental effects will occur when China's economy develops further...they will be the largest user of ALL the world's natural resources: water, food, and oil. With India following close behind....gee, i hate sounding so pessimistic!

http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/english/doc/2004-12/23/content_402814.htm According to this article there is 9 million tons of prooven oil in reserve and 11.5 billion tons of possible untapped oil in the Bahia bay of China. The problem seems to be getting cooperation from offshore drilling companies (????)to get it out. Now, however the article reads, I am suspect about not finding help to go forward with extraction as I am in a doomsday mood, and I think China may be thinking to save this oil for latter... and use up what it can buy. But no Chinese official would talk to me on this matter....
