I would like to do a report about how alcohol effects everyone differently. I do not approve of anyone drinking and driving but i feel that some become more intoxified on body size, weight, also metabolizm. I feel that one cookie cutter level is not accurate of everyone, some get drunk on less, some more. I appreciate any companys'. I have tried health supply companies to no avail.

You can go to www.alcopro.com for the supplies and information. Anyone that wants to pay the price can get a machine; however you need to take classes to be certified to give tests for the DOT, etc... The standard machine is about $3,000.00, however you can buy some standard saliva strips for about $40.00. If you are anywhere around Toledo, OH I would be happy to provide you with a machine for a short term simply contact me.

You have an absolutely correct hypothesis, the differences in metabolism, tolerance and body mass make a huge difference in the intoxication of a person.

The piece of the puzzle that is impossible to fit is how we make a unified and simple system that can be effectively policed by the officers of the law. They can't take the time to determine what is really right. I may be able to drive safely at a BAC (Blood Alcohol Level) of .120 but someone else might be impaired at a .050. We simply err on the side of caution.

Also it is politically impossible to fight against the emotional diatribe of groups like MADD or AA. They must hold a hard line for not only the drunk but also the part time binge drinker, because they are talking about death. An impaired person only gets one chance to do the right thing. The moment they get into a car they are loading a weapon. When they drive they are pointing it. I choose not to be in the way.

If there is anyway I can help...

There are several personal use breathalyzers on the market. IF you google the term you will find many. For instance:

As far as the effect, the legal limit is not arbitrary or cookie cutter. The effects of the alcholol at any given level are going to be the same for everyone. How you get to that level is the only variable. I maybe able to drink a case of beer and not reach .10g% while it only takes you one beer. That is not fair but life ain't fair! That doesn't make legal limits invalid and if it did they would have been tossed out of courts years ago. I can promise you defense attorneys have tried!

It is also not to say that with two people, both with the same levels at .08-.10g% (grams percent of alcohol in blood by volume) which is the legal limits in most states, one person won't be more able to perform certain task better than the other, but I can promise you neither will be able to pass the sobriety tests which are designed to test motor skills and impairment.

The other problem with your study is the fact that I am assuming you are not field sobriety test certified. There are alot of subtle indicators that an untrained person will miss so most of your data won't be accurate.
