Your question is valid but you seem to already have your mind made up.

Freemasonry is not a religion. I know I know, you read Albert Pike's _Morals and Dogma_. Here is the scoop: we are Free masons. There is no dogma. Yes, Pike had problems with Christianity, big problems. He rewrote many of the rituals in use today. But all Freemasons are free to interpret the symbols of the Craft anyway they wish. Sigh.

The Oaths come from a time when it was death to those who were betrayed to be so betrayed. Some of us think it came from the Knights Templars. Those nice Inquisition fellows were tracking them down, torturing and killing them to get their treasure. Mostly that was done in the NAME of Jesus, BTW. Not the spirit, but the name.

Read the Oaths all the way thru, if you have a copy (without moving your lips and not outloud - I mean, really. You think that anything your read to yourself binds you to it?). I will not reveal the wording here, obviously. But in essence, what they say is that what is worse than death is to be known as a liar. Don't you feel that way? I certainly do.

We admit Jews, and Jains, Christians, Hindus, and Muslims. Sorry for ranting but this question does get asked a lot. If you cannot sit in fellowship with people of different faiths, it must be hard for you to belong to Boy Scouts, the military, or any number of groups that made America what it is.

Free Masons historically have a lot in common with the teachings of Jesus. There was a scandal about a murder that they believe a few people covered up but ruined the reputation of the masons which is why it got such a bad reputation as time went by. But if you look at the foundations of the US the concepts of god given rights were thought to be espoused by that of the free masons. Free Masons were also one of the earlier groups that allowed people to join regardless of financial means and did actually oppose slavery. I think Free Masons have gotten a very bad rap over the years.

What difference does it make what there connection with Jesus. Do you not see all the good they have done and still do now? They don't come knock on your door and try to influence you to except there religion or any thing else for that matter. Quite honestly I think that we need to have a secret society, kind of like a check and balance. Look at some of the politicians, can you say that you believe that everyone is a believer in Christ Jesus? Look at the secretiveness that they are engulfed in. The good that the Masons do, if it causes one person to look at Jesus because of the good they have done, that's what counts.

All you have to do to be a Freemason is believe in a supreme being. It is not a religion, but a organization of men trying to better them selves with teaching's which go back to the time of building the temples in Jerusalem. Any one of any faith or religion can be a Mason their are secrets that you are asked to keep because that also helps you build moral character.

It was probably removed because of the stupid capitalisation. That looks spammy.

There is a great article about Freemasonry at the following link. It is not as nefarious as it looks from the outside. Also, keeping secrets is the best way to keep yourself free from those who would try to oppress you if they knew your secrets.
