God gave us the gift of free will, which means that we are free to do whatever we want, as humans we have a general understanding of what is right and wrong, however none of us do what is right all the time. There is not a person on this planet who lives without sin, and that is the truth of it all. So if free will causes people to do horrible things on a daily basis, the one thing that hold true is that no matter what we do today, we will have to face our creator tomorrow.

In the sense that smoking cigarettes is its own reward (cancer) so is following religion. You will stay blissfully ignorant, wrapped in your own little cocoon of faith, and the truth is, that's the best place for you. Reality is scary. Admitting that there are things that we don't yet understand is scary. Resisting the urge to "write off" all the things we don't understand to an all-powerful deity is even more scary. Rejecting a couple thousand years of dogma when 90% of the world disagrees with you is very scary.
Trying to find logic in the Christian belief system is like trying to teach calculus to a dog. Why do Christians debunk science? Because they are afraid that one day, science will pull back the curtains and reveal that the great and almighty Oz is just a man. Christians are terrified of the idea that we human may be all alone in this universe, and the best we can possibly look to is each other.
Theists have oppressed scientists from the start because science threatens to expose the great myth. The problem is that science and truth walk hand-in-hand, and as much as people are controlled by fear, a few brave people are always willing to risk everything in the pursuit of truth. People have died fighting against Christian religious dogma, not because they hate religion, but because they cherish the truth.
The goal of science is to understand. Science invites questions. Science welcomes revision. Science promotes freedom. The goal of religion is to control through fear. Religion oppresses people in the guise of love. Religion blackmails people (especially Christianity.) Religion eschews change, and that in itself is the biggest red flag. The very nature of the universe is change.

I agree with artman. Don't worry so much about what Christians say and do and don't say and do. Read the Bible and hear it from the horses mouth. Then you can make an educated choice. People are fickle and change their minds as it suits them. Rather go to the Source and see what He says for Himself. Many Christians spend their whole life defending God when He doesn't need defending. When Job went through hell and whined and groaned at God, God did not defend Himself. He asked "Were you there?" No one can be 100% sure how the world came into being but the God who created it. A word of warning though. Just as many Christians don't have a clue, so also many scientist don't have a clue.

I don't think that Christians are trying to debunk science at all - actually the science came after the Christian belief in Creationism. While I don't believe it myself, I know that it came from a place of faith in something that people can't fully understand. A lot of Christians believe in evolution these days.
Also, I understand where you're going with the babies dying thing, and just to clarify - most Christians believe that people are born with sin, even if they haven't committed the act. I am a Christian, and I don't believe that God "slaughters his own children" so much as He allows the deaths of children. I can't pretend to even begin to comprehend His reasoning. I think it's awful that children die and I think that it's even worse when it's babies. But at the same time the whole point of faith is that I trust that God DOES have a plan, it's just not something I could ever understand.
I know that a lot of people think that Christians are self-righteous and awful - and who knows, maybe some of them are. But I think that most of us aren't claiming to have all of the answers at all. We don't know how or why God does anything, we just believe that he is all-knowing and we trust Him.

I am religious and I see a direct correlation between science and religion. Anyone who tries to disporove science is probably igonorant and lazy - lazy for taking religion as a way of life without making himself familiar with all the options. In my opinion, science was created by God, and was put in place for a reason. What we see as an every day, scientific occurance, is really a miracle in itself, and any other method which would have been used instead of science, would have been seen in the same light.
As for the God who murdrers his children, only a truly religious person can answer that - not someone who only claims to be religous, but is only using it as an excuse to be holier than thou. I know that it is easy to say that "God has his reasons" but to really believe it is much harder. How many people lose their faith when faced with a tremendous hardship? That is only becasue their faith was based on blind, ignorant faith. When your build your religion on ignorance, you are bound to lose it when question start to eat away at it. When you build your faith on conviction, you have a strong foundation. I know what you are thnking: "easy for her to say!" Well, I have had my share of trials in life and my faith came through intact. My father wlways encouraged us to question our beliefs and to seek the truth.
Religion is not for everyone - you have to have a very strong belief and conviction. Some people use it as an escape - I know that their religion is precarious and will crumble. So when you are faced with these phonies, try to remember that their relion is standing on the edge of a prespice. If you want a good debate about religion, seek a truly religious person.

Christians don't debunk science. There is nothing scientific about evolution. It's religion.
Science doesn't claim to have all the answers for a simple reason. It doesn't.
Christians claim to have all the answers for a simple reason. We do.
God made a perfect world (read Genesis 1). It is the sin of fallen man that has made this world how you describe.

"cutting-part scientists are being very boastful" ... extra boastful than someone saying they have a own relationship with god and function each and every of the solutions? *edit* to respond to your question about what aspect "existence" enters the photo? i do not' imagine all people is calming to have that answer yet. this is the honor of technological expertise. The extra questions you ask the extra doorways you open to new fields of analysis. that is in simple terms yet another door.

As a Christian, I can tell you that most of those calling themselves Christians are so far off the mark that they have no friggin' clue what God has to say about anything- my advice, ignore them- they are so busy screwing up their own religion they hardly have time to screw up anything else.
