I understand what you mean. But it's meant for a celebration of a new life coming in this world.
------------------------------------------------------------------
A baby shower is a party in which expectant parents receive gifts or money for their expected child. By convention, a baby shower is intended to help parents get things that they need for their baby (such as basic layette items), especially items they may not be able to afford. It is a fairly recent tradition in the United States and in other cultures influenced by American culture or media.
Traditionally, a baby shower is held only for the mother-to-be, and only women attend. However, many people choose to have baby showers for both parents, and some people have a men-only shower. It is not uncommon for a parent to have more than one baby shower, such as one with friends and another with co-workers. A baby shower is generally arranged by a close friend or relative of the parents-to-be. Traditionally, it was considered improper for a family member to host because the event centers on gift-giving.
Baby showers have become more common in the past few decades, as families have become smaller and each child gets more individual attention. Though they are traditionally only held for the first child, they can also be arranged for subsequent children and for children who have been adopted. It is common for the host to provide baby-themed games during the shower. In some regions, shower favors (small gifts for the guests) are common.
Not all Americans hold baby showers. For example, in Jewish tradition, nothing may be bought for the baby before it is born. But many American Jews today do not subscribe to that tradition.

Some people are superstitious and won't buy anything til the baby get here alive and well. However most people have baby showers to stock up on things so the mother won't have to worry about getting anything but formula for a few weeks after the baby arrives. My sister had a diaper baby shower along with two others thrown by our aunt and her friend. It really helped out in the beginning.

Baby showers are thrown to shower the expecting parents with gifts. Because yes, rocks would hurt. It can happen before the baby is born or after. By the way unless your "faith" requires parents don't typically like to wait til the day after the baby is born to go out and shop for a crib, stroller, bottles, clothes, blankets, diapers, formula, bibs, the list goes on and on and on. Preparing for a baby takes time and money, a lot of which new parents don't have.
Plus it's tradition and one more reason to party!

Baby showers are held to help outfit the parents-to-be with some of the gear they're going to need- some of which is really important to have BEFORE the baby arrives, like a carseat, some diapers, etc.
Some people do have showers AFTER the baby arrives, but it can be really hard to do because new parents (moms especially) are exhausted and may not want to expose their new babies to a roomful of people and their germs for a while.

It's a fun way to get together with family and friends to celebrate. Having a baby is an exciting time....a baby shower makes the mom to be feel special. All of her loved ones feel special as well because they are excited too and this is a way to show their support. Not to mention...it's also a nice way for a mom to be to get some much needed baby items. Children are quite expensive! A shower after the baby is born would be fine too if that's the way you want to do it but I think it's easier the traditional way. After your little bundle of joy comes bouncing into the world you will be quite busy....not to mention tired! Best of luck to you and yours!

It's a fun way to make the mother feel appriciated for the work she has to do & a great way to get stuff the baby will need before the baby gets here. If you have the baby & have no clothes or diapers or wipes for it's butt what are you gonna do? It's a good idea to have the nursery organized before the baby comes because afterwards you won't have time & you'll have to scramble around to get what you don't have.

The point of a baby shower is to help the new mom/parents to be! They are really gonna need all the stuff they get! It just makes it easier for them (financially)! When you have a baby (if you do) you'll probably be thankful for the shower also!!

it's so everything that you need for the baby is there when the baby gets home also some have the baby earlier than expected and have no clothes bottles blankets diapers etc.... so it's actually very smart to have a baby shower before the baby is born
