smartone: staying away from fatty foods when you have thyroid problems doesn't solve it. hypothyroidism slows the metabolism down severely so you can eat healthy and still pack on the pounds. the food you take in simply isn't burned up, it doesn't matter what kind it is, fatty or not.

I think people choose to not do what it takes for themselves. Everyone is different. Not everyone is meant to be skinny. Being "fat" is not a problem unless there are image issues or health issues. If someone has issues with being "fat" they should do the research, find out what's best for them, and commit to it. Just keep in mind, just like some people don't have the genetics to be huge muscle bound bodybuilders, some people don't have the genetics to be...say...a runway model. I suggest people try to be the healthiest people they can be. Honestly the right attire can make a world of difference with image problems. The world needs all types to go 'round. Represent yours! ;)

They don't choose to be fat, they choose to be lazy and not eat right. If you have a thyroid problem, stay FAR AWAY from fatty foods, and many people who are diabetic are also fat for no reason: I have two friends who are diabetic and they are fitter than most people I know. So, no, I don't think it's a health problem, I think it's the problem with people not feeling like controlling themselves.

short answer is NO.
some people are genetically predisposed to be fat because of what their famillies look like.
i'm sure you have seen a fat kid who looks just like his dad. and vise versa. As well as a skinny kid who eats all the time and never exercises.
For instance i know people who take a long time fo build muscle in their arms it takes me no more then two weeks to see different but also i can do thousand of sit ups and the only way i'll get abs is if i starve myself. and so on.

I think that part of it is a disease of the mind. Some people have been treated really badly as children and have found food to be their coping mechanism. Some girls become large to get away from the attention of males. Some people eat to disappear.

Who are we to judge anybody. I think that's the *bigger* problem.

No one chooses to be fat. No one can really choose how they're going to be. If you're uncomfortable with your weight, work out and eat healthy.

my experience has been low self esteem, stress or medical problems. Add to that the steroids and appetite enhancers that are added to our food and it becomes a serious problem that seems to have few solutions.

No one chooses to be fat, they choose to eat lots of food and don't exercise which makes them fat.

People choose to be fat because they are too lazy to do anything about their weight.
