You don't have to be a high school graduate, you can join with a GED but I believe it's a longer and harder process, my husband is a Army recruiter so I can find out more.
Ok I asked my husband, yes you can join the Army with a GED, here's the thing, it can take longer for you to get in because the Army only opens so many slots for GED's at a time and you have the whole country of recruiters trying to get those slots for their person. As far as jobs when you get in, it will depend on how well you do on the ASVAB plus yes their will be some jobs you will not be able to do, the Army kinda looks at it like you dropped out of school and didn't get all the education you need for every job, here's the funny part I think, here where my husband is recruiting the people with the GED's are passing the test and the high school graduates are not. In all reality I would finish high school, once you get out of high school you will wish you were back in so enjoy it, the real world isn't as easy as it looks. Its your choice though, hope this helped.
as the person above me said you need 15 credit hours of college or 365 hours at a job corps.

Well, technically you do not have to be a high school graduate. However, the military doesn't normally recruit or allow non-graduates to enter unless they are on a delayed entry program (you delay your entering into the military until you have graduated).
You do have to be at least 17 years old to enter the military (and if you are only 17, you must have a signed parental consent).
Check out this website for some eligibility requirements.
http://usmilitary.about.com/od/joiningthemilitary/a/enlstandards.htm
Look here for a listing of all US military websites - which each have links to recruiting.
http://www.dod.gov/sites/r.html#Recruiting
You can always go straight to your local recruiting office and ask them, but each branch has their own recruiting office so you might want to decide on a branch first.
Finally, don't enter into this lightly. A military career (even for just 4 years) is tough. The training is hard, the rules can be strict. But it can also be a way to see the world and build character. Just remember that the military's job is to protect our freedom, and that can mean going to war. If you are joining because you believe in that and you believe you will be a benefit, that's great. If you are joining to get out of high school, you may be in for a big surprise. It requires much more discipline and mental strength than anything in high school.
Good luck!

GED slots are few and far between. each branch of the military only accepts so many new enlistees with a GED per year, and they go extremely fast. The easiest way to get around this, if you do not have a HS diploma, is to take 15 credit hours( one semester) of college course at the 100 level or higher. Then, for purposes of enlistment, a GED with those 15 credits counts as a regular high school diploma and you won't have the restrictions that a straight GED has.

maybe it depends in what country u r applying for. But I still believe you should at least finish secondary schooling for u 2 be able to enter the military service for some good reasons. I am in the military and enlisted ranks needs at least 72 units in college but high school are accepted provided that the applicant passes thorough interviews and exams. Applicants must also be skilled and pass some practical test on the skills they have.
In the officers, there are different schools with different requrements. In the military academy where you will undergo the Bachelors in Military Science, High School graduates are accepted because you still be having a regular college with the aformentioned course. But mostly, applicants wanted to have a private 1st yr in college to ba able to catch up faster. In other schoolls, you need to be a college grad.
Well, if ur applying, goodluck!!!

Every branch has its set admission standards, for example, the navy will take you without a diploma as where the marines only take graduates the airforce will take you if you are a genius (for the good jobs) the army requires a GED. talk to a recruiter to get the full skinny, most of the people that answer these questions have no idea what they are writing or what you are asking.

Years ago the AF was letting people in without HS Diplomas, but the ones I knew had GEDs and/or atleast an Associates Degree. Might be a different story now. Best bet is to find your local recruiter for each of the services and ask as each have different requirements.
Good Luck!

My Uncle is a recruiter for the Marines, and I joined the Army a year ago. According to the Army Times, you have to have a high school diploma or equivalent, and according to my uncle, if you really want to join the military, they'll take you to get your GED free of charge to you.

Yes, you need to graduate from high school or have a GED. I think you will need a high school diploma to join the Marine Corps, because they don't want drop-outs.

It depends on what you want to do in the military. besides, if you were hiring for the military, who would you choose, a red neck who didn't finish high school, or an educated responsable person with grade 12?
