Victory will be when a Demorcatic goverment is installed and functional. By the way, you should be last person on the answer board to talk about capable, thoughtful or rational explanations. I see the excriment you spit out. You should try reading a book or two about the Middle East and its history before you spew out such nonsence.

What victory in Iraq is going to look like, is this.......and mark my words. It may never be a truly peaceful country but it will be put into a state of control run by an Iraqi democratic government with their police and military controlling it. The people want their freedom. Just look at the turn out percentage that voted the day of their election and tell me different. They risked their lives to have that right. We Americans seem to forget how blessed and free we are. And we still don't realize it even after seeing it take place in another country. Thank god we were able to take a murdering dictator out of power. If you think Hussein was a normal leader and not a terrorist threat you do not watch or listen to what goes on around you. Open your eye's and ears. As far as Vietnam goes it can not be compared to Iraq in ANY way what so ever. Completely to different conflicts that should never be compared. Proud? Yes, very proud and glad to live in a free and safe country. I'll thank god again for our troops and the jobs they do to keep terrorist threats away from home. So enjoy your freedoms and rights to ask questions like this while others fight and die so you can continue to do so.
Good question. Glad I could answer it for you.

The majority of missions will be accomplished within two years. The time is through training. It takes about three months for them to train an Iraqi soldier and policeman. There are already 10s of thousands of these guys on active duty and they are patroling 75% of Iraq. The insurgence is basically active in 4 or so cities in a country the size of California.

Depends on when Coalition Forces pull out of Iraq. Right now, every country that is in Iraq is still there at the request of the Freely Elected Government of Iraq. If we decide to pull out tomorrow, it will look just as it does today. If the Freely Elected Government of Iraq asks the United States to leave tomorrow, it will look just as it does today.
Try finding a website or news agency that isn't the same old thing and find out what is really going on over there. Broaden your sources of information. How many articles have you read about new schools being built by soliders? Neighborhoods that the children are free to play in, made safe by soldiers? More Iraqis die every day from outside "military" forces. Guess what? They are not US, UK, or any other nations soldiers. They are terrorists. Insurgents. People who came to Iraq for the sole purpose... well, I'm not really sure because all I see them doing is blowing up market places, schools, police headquarters, buses, did I mention market places? Who do you think are in all these locations? US troops? Nope. Average everyday Iraqi men, women and childern. Where is the cry for the people who are killing the Iraqi people by the hundreds every day?
Victory in Iraq is when outside influences allow Iraq to take care of itself as it sees fit. Men by the hundreds volunteer for the new police force, and then get killed by a suicide bomber while they are in line wiating to sign up, or out in the field training. These are people trying to make it better for their families but there are others who are hell-bent on creating havoc instead. They care not at all for the Iraqi civilians they kill.
BTW, The current Leadership learned from Vietnam's mistakes, do you really think we are making those same mistakes? Last I checked Congress, Rep and Dem, voted to stay in Iraq. They had a say and when the rubber met the road, they kept it rolling.
And you are welcome. Welcome for the freedom that is provided by the American fighting men and women for the chance to voice your opinion without getting killed for your efforts.

Admission to ourselves that we have made a huge mistake invading Iraq. And then a direct appeal to the world to sit-down together and come up with a united solution to the Iraq problem. We have to conduct ourselves like we are one Nation among many. Otherwise, we finish the job of alienating friends and foes alike.

I'm from europe...and the opinion here, is that u guys should drop irak, and leave...you've messed it up, you should leave everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, yes Mr Bush, even your precious oil....and go back to america. You should let the UN take care of it, coz Americans are hated in Irak. The UN, as usual will have to clean the mess the us troops made...

Everyone will be cheering, spraying bottle of champagne all over dead terrorist's body, dancing, and partying.
Nah... that;s just movies. Realistic, it will be very ugly, bloody, messy, depressing, and raise more questions than answers.
