if the senior citizens can stay on their own, they can do that, but if it is not possible to stay with their children, for some reasons, then old age homes are the option, but they should be managed by good-natured, caring an professional people, and registered organisations. most of the homes in india, provide basic amenities to the old and infirm, very few of them are absolutely free, most of them require to part their life's savings with the management, plus a monthly charge. they would lok after till death. you become entitrely at the mercy of the management, and callousness creeps in. you are just another inmate.

Homes for senior citizens are necessary, especially for those unmarried ones. One will be lucky enough if he has a caring niece or nephew.
I happened to witness an old lady who died of broken bones. Because she was not sent to the hospital on the same day that she had a fall. She was left alone under the care of the maids who simply wanted to go leave her to attend to their own needs. As a result, I was thinking about myself if I were on her shoes, what would happen to me then :( I don't have a family of my own.
So, having homes for the senior citizens IS NECESSARY.

without them, they wouldn't have a place to live if they don't have any family. taking care of a senior is a full 24/7 job. most families can't do it. if they get the right home, they can make friends and still feel as if they belong. but check on them with surprise visits to make sure they are being taken care of properly.

In my personal opinion, no. The existance of old folks' homes serve to undermine one of our vitures, that is filial piety.

Unless one is terminally sick, requires special medical attention or do not have kin to look after, it is the child's responsibility to look after his/her parents and not send them to home.

The establishment of homes should be for the welfare of senior citizens who are singles. One has to take care of his/her parents and not leave under the care of the home.

Not really. It should be only for those seniors who do not have relatives to look after them

I would have been very happy if my parents had lived longer to be able to serve them as long as they lived as much as they needed me, regardless of their situation.

In Islam, if you look after your parents, you go to heave .
In Islam, you should be obedient to your parents in all matters , except for things which are against Islam teachings.
In Islam, you are not allowed to frown on your parents or raise your voice in their presence.

So, I would have never sent my parents to a senior citizens home at any circumstances. I would devote my life for them

My mother is in one. She had a stroke and can't stay by herself. I work and go to school but if I had someone here round the clock, I would bring her home to live with me.
