try using a spray bottle of water or a small air horn. Both of these methods work. when they bark, spray them or use the airhorn with short sounds.

This might sound silly, but it actually worked for me. My dog was just over 2 years and getting really talkative about the slightest noise, let alone someone walking past or at the door. So when I was home with her, I would keep her inside. And when she'd bark, I'd say her name, but in a loud whisper, and I'd follow with the whispered command "Be Quiet." I'd keep my voice low. When she would respond positively, I would begin to whisper to her things like "Who is that?" "Listen", and I'd act like I was listening too. It taught her to observe rather than shout when things came by. She was allowed one good bark if someone was near the house or at the door, but then I would whisper to be quiet and listen. The funniest thing, she developed a quiet bark, a whisper.
It took almost a year, but after that, she was one of the quietest dogs I, or anyone who met her, had known.
Outside, the same rule applied. As soon as I heard one bark I'd be at the door and ready to reprimand her if she kept barking. Sometimes if there was too much going on, she wouldn't stop, so I would bring her inside whenever this happened, and use condescending tones, letting her know she'd just lost the privelege of being outside. I'd also keep her inside while I wasn't at home.

questions is tricky but lets see
1 if you mean strangers like new people, you have to let the dog check them out smell them get use to them takes time for a dog to get use to someone
2. if you mean strangers well thats a good thing to bark at
3 some breeds know who is family by smell had a friend that knew my dog the day it was born but when the dog was 10 that guy still wasn't aloud in the yard without a bark to let me know
4 socialize the dog more with friends and people you know besides family should help
good luck and young dogs sometimes just bark but most out grow it

I like to use Iams kitten kibble as a teaching treat. Put a handful in your pocket. take your dog for a walk, and as soon as people approach, just before he would normally bark, make a signal, such as 'tsk-tsk', and give him a treat. As the people are passing, continue to give him a few kibbles. If he doesn't bark, give loads of praise. Don't scold him if he does bark, but ignore it. keep this up for a couple of weeks, if walked daily, and he will get the point, and begin wagging his tail, and looking to you as soon as people or dogs approach.
In your home, do much the same. However, a firm 'No Bark' is in order in your home, and make him back away from guests. You must be the boss in your own home, he shouldn't be allowed to be rude to guests. Reward good behavior with pats or treats.

If he don't bite, you might consider taking him to a busy place such as a grocery store or walmart and just sitting with him by the door and letting him see all the people. This way he can meet lots of people and learn not to bark at them. I might take some time, but keep working with him and he should come around.

Don't let your dog drive anymore... no seriously though he needs to meet lots of people and learn that he is safe and that other people can be trusted. Try a dog park where there are lots of other dogs and other people. He just needs some more socialization but he should get the hang of it.

You can get stop barking collars there are 2 types.
1. gives a slight electric shock to the dog everytime it barks does not hurt the dog
BUT
2. is a citronella barking collar everytime your dog barks it realeases a spray of citronella and the dogs can't stand the smell hence it stops them barking, they are expensive but if you want to stop your dog barking its the best way

You could always put a muzzle on your dog. But it might not be a good idea. They are barking to protest there master . etc. It is best to let others know they will bark. You can tie them on a smaller chain if out . to keep back, or keep fenced in. Pem

When me and my husband were training our dogs. we would have a hard time with that as well and we actually took them to schools and they told us that when a dog barks you can put mouthwash and water in a squirt bottle and when they bark squirt their mouth and they will learn not to do it...put about 1/2 cup of mouth wash and 2-3 cups of water in a squirt bottle and shake it up and after awhile they will stop...It really does work. i know it sounds crazy I even thought it did when my dogs trainer told me but it does work and controls their barking..Good Luck!

Why is the dog barking? Is it barking at other animals? Other people? Or is it bored and stands outside and barks all night? Check and find out why it is barking and then you can do something about it.
