Yes, the "new" rank designations are all three letter:

2LT = Second Lieutenant
1LT = First Lieutenant
CPT = Captain
MAJ = Major
LTC = Lieutenant Colonel
COL = Colonel

Flag officer ranks are all two lette, the first letter of their rank followed by G for general, i.e. BG is Brigadier General, MJ would be Major General, etc. Enlisted ranks now all have three letter designators as well.r

My husband noticed somwhere that it was CPT. I told him maybe it was a typo and they left out the A. He research on the net and it is now CPT, it is suppose to sound more proffessional.

Army changed their abrevs a long time ago to all three letters, for some crappy electronic form I'm sure, & everybody followed suit, I think under the new ID system.
