I'm not trying to be depressing or anything, please hear me out. I am a religious person. I believe that after we die we will be reunited with our families and be together forever. Now for those of you who believe that after we die there is nothing, what are you living for? If death is the end, why go on living? Seriously, I would be very depressed if I thought everything I do here was for nothing so I'm wondering how you go on every day. I'm sorry if this depresses anyone, that isn't my intention, I'm just curious.

Thank you to all the believers who have responded, just in case you missed it, I believe in life after death too. The question was aimed at those who don't.

Just to point out, even if you go to heaven, is there a point to life anyway?

Is the point of life to live one pointless existence just to live an
infinitely long and equally pointless existence? Whats the point of going on to gain access to a place where you still cannot sin.

Is there a point to living forever anyway? I think you have it backwards my friend. Life is more beautiful when there is no point.

In the words of who ever Brad Pitt played in troy.

"The gods envy us because we are mortal, everything is more beautiful because we are doomed."

Hell to the yeah.

YOU would be depressed if you realized death was final...until you came to grips with it. After that, you might find that the finality of death is more comforting than not knowing your fate, or having doubts about it.

When a believer loses a loved one, or approaches death, you WILL have doubts about the disposition of your loved one or yourself. That doubt will eat you up right at the moment you are most in need. Your believer friends will expect you to show no doubt as a sign of your faith, so you will likely have no-one you can even share those feelings with. I pity you.

When a nonbeliever faces these things, if there is any doubt about the finality of death, that's actually hope! We've already accepted the worst case, and so you can only go up from there. You will have no problem finding a sympathetic ear willing to help you with such doubts.

Having faced death as both a believer and a nonbeliever, I know what I'm talking about. There is NO-ONE you can talk to as a believer with questions like "are you sure grampa didn't go to hell?"

Part of growing up involves the realization that reality doesn't care about your insecurities. Another part of grwoing up involves learning to accept that and live your life to its fullest nonetheless.

I would like to think that I will be with my family and friends again once I die but I do not think that this is the truth.

I am living because I believe life is all I have. There are so many joys in life why would I want to end it early just because nothing comes after. I go on everyday because I live for the here and now, for me, and for those I care about not for God, Jesus, or what happens after life is over.

O.K. with you being a religious person, do you read the Bible?

Have you ever read the account about Lazarus (Jesus' friend) and when we died? Did it mention that Lazarus visited his family while he was dead? Did it say that he saw the angels carrying him away to the heavens? The answers are "NO." ---- John 11: 11-44 So, in Acts 24:15, let's me know that there WILL BE a resurrection.

Have you ever thought about this: If everyone is going to Heaven after dying....... why would there be a resurrection? Honestly think about that??!!

So, to answer you question......... What are you living for?
I am living to have a close relationship with Jehovah God (Grand Creator), obey his commandments and worship him in spirit and truth to the day I die or till the end of this system of things..... which ever one comes first. I'll continue preaching the GOOD NEWS about His Kingdom, to everyone so that they can know that one day, we will live forever. With no sorrow, mourning, pain, crime, war, WITH NO PROBLEMS!! ------- Doesn't that sound purposeful and meaningful to LIVE FOR??!!!! I truly feel so!!

You see, the funny thing is, I'm not living for the sake of being reuinted with my family when I die. That's bull ****. If that's the only reason you are living I feel extremely sorry for you, I think perhaps you should go to councelling. Have you ever thought of living for the enjoyment of LIFE, instead of death?

That's my reason for living, to enjoy what the world throws at me in the time that i've got. Limited time makes it so much more enjoyable and worth it.

Live for the day and the happiness that it gives you. Get your mind off the end and onto today. You'll be much better off.

There's nothing we can do about the afterlife or lack thereof. The only choices we have pertain to our current respected situations. There are a million different beliefs regarding the afterlife and it's impossible to know if any are correct. Life sucks, but there's no use being permanently depressed, because in reality everyone's depressed. If you do believe as you say, then join the army, die for something, and meet up with your family in eternal paradise

I am not sure if there is an afterlife or not. To be honest with you, in a way, I hope there isn't. I think this life will be enough for me.

As a Jew, my purpose is to be a partner with G-d who created the world (maybe). As his partner, I am suppose to help perfect the world. In short, my job is to help make the world a better place. I can also start by trying to be a better person. So you see, there is nothing to be depressed about - there is so much to do, I better get busy doing it.

Thank you for your interesting question.

My best guess is this....so what if some people feel that death is the end? Living is full of so many wonderful feelings and emotions! Just because one may believe there is nothing after death doesn't mean they can't enjoy the life they have now. Best of luck to you and yours!

I believe that there is a plan for us or why would we exist in the first place. I believe we will all be reunited. Anyone can look around and see that we have a great and powerful creator. Sometimes the simplest things are so hard to understand.

I dont believe that death is the end. That would be a shitty ending for the life we live. Personally, I believe in reincarnation because the is to much to learn on earth that can be accomplished in one lifetime. God didnt put us here to just live one life and thats it. There has got to be something great at the end of it all. Im sure of it. I go on knowing that everything that comes my way is a test of strength, will, and pride. And I know I can overcome anything bad, and in the end, It will all be worth It. We live this life of hell to have our souls live on for eternity in heaven

WEll i see your point. If there wasnt after life then what would be the point of living. But the thing is is there is life after death. Eternal life. It just depends on where you go. Well im a Christian and as you know i believe that you either go to heaven or hell. So I cant wait till i go to heaven for eternity!
