If there was irrefutable proof, that God (in all his guises) did or did not exist would you change your belief, and if so, how would it change your life

Why are people taking this the wrong way?
The point of the question is - would you be devasted to learn that you'd either been barking up the wrong tree, or right all along?
How would sure and certain knowledge change your life?
I appreciate what's being said about faith here, but I'd be worried if people didn't question it from time to time.
If you don't like the question, then please don't answer it at all.

I have thought of this before, it's been debated on here before!
Don't be upset about people "taking it the wrong way" the subject is a can of worms. The question is quite legit!
So my thoughts were what proof would I ever accept? the most fantastic proof would be the sudden appearance of God in person, he would immediately perform all sorts of miracles, and right all sorts of wrongs.
Peoples of all lands and tongues would understand what he was saying!
That should be the ultimate proof!!
But even given all that there is no way I would believe, I would put it down to a space man rather than believe there was a God, or at least the God all these religious nutters believe in!
Then my next thought was how could we disprove that God exists?
So I had to go back to my space fantasy bit again and take things to a silly extreme.
A fleet of space ships land on earth, they have proof of how the earth was created, (Not by any God) they also have proof of thousands of other planets with intelligent life alll going about their daily business, but earth is the only planet whose people believe in this God idea!
There couldnt be much better proof than that could there?
But it wouldnt be enough for the religious nuts! They would continue to believe because of this 'faith' thing!
Although your question is interesting you are right to say you know it would probably never happen!
What will happen is that the few thousand years that people have been believing in this 'tosh' is really merely a blink of the eye, this religion will just evaporate into thin air eventually as many others have, I'm just sorry I wont be around to see it!!
But good question, keep them coming and dont worry about replies from 'nutters' whether they are religious nutters or atheist nutters like myself!!

Since I'm an atheist, I'll answer the question this way:
If it were proven by scientists that there was indeed a deity of sorts, then of course, I would believe in it. However, I would not change my lifestyle, because the deity did not instate the mundane rules of certain religions. It is my belief that all religions originally existed to help people become good-hearted, so that these people could show love and respect to others and to the world we live in. I already uphold these two things, so a deity coming into existance would not change the way I run my life any more so than if we discovered a new type of vegetable.

No one would believe it, even if God went on TV. Half Way through his sermon half the viewers in UK would switch over to Neighbours or some other dribble. "Come on den, if yur God show wus sa miracle." As the water turns to wine there would be a million viewers saying, "Oh God, not the old water to wine trick, seen it." I believe that to see the works of mans maker, one just has to look around. The Earth is sat in a vacuum called space, now that's a miracle. Space is infinite and there are billions of stars out there, another miracle. Whatever/whoever made this universe is God. If someone came along and said, "I'm God and if they had proof, even if they were plankton, I for one would believe. I personaly think that its is humankind that will become Gods, perhaps that is why we are here.

I like your question very much and it's very hard to answer.
Did you know that you can still be Jewish and not believe in G-d? So, if there were definite proof that G-d did not exist, I would still be a Jew and still keep our Jewish traditions. Why? Because I believe in the Jewish people and believe we should keep on existing.
However, I think it would make me feel sad to know definitely that G-d did not exist. I think it would take away some of the hopeful feeling that there is a Higher Being out there that cares about what is happening to the people of the world.
You have every right to ask this question and it's an excellent, thought-provoking question.

Existence of God cannot be proved or disproved. It is a matter of faith. It does not require any proof.Even if you do'nt believe in Theory of Gravitation, the apple will fall down only, the stone thrown up by you also will fall down.Life is based on so many beliefs. When the belief changes life change.
When you study biology or evolution study you conclude, from amoeba evolved all living organisams including man.But the question remains who created the single cell organism, for which you have no answer. Can't you give credit for it to unknown cause one may call God?
Who created gravitation?

Faith is the Evidence of things unseen how do you know there is wind can you see the wind no but you see the effects of the wind that proves it is there you cant see the wind but you can feel the wind so if you need proof open your heart and your life God will prove to you he is real i have the thew evidence of things unseen my faith will not be shaken some people would rather tell a lie and believe a lie to see and speak the truth sad but true. GOD IS VERY REAL WATCH A CHILD BEING BORN INTO THE WORLD THEN YOU WILL SEE ANOTHER ACT OF GOD

Good question. If it were proven that God didn't exist, I'd like to think it wouldn't change me too much as a person. I don't try to believe well for some payoff in the afterlife I do it to make the world a better place, so I'd hope I would keep doing that.

Thank you. Great question. I'll opt for the does NOT exist verdict. I'd probably do what I wanted as long as it didn't hurt anybody. I still have my morals and values. I'm sure I'd like to laugh in all the christians' faces for all the crap I've had shuved down my throat! But at the end of the day there's a good chance I'd be dissapointed.

Well I believe in God whether there is irrefutable proof ot not, but it would make it a lot easier to tell other people about God and how great he is with some proff that he exists.

If it could be reasonably be shown a god exists (my standard for gods is no different than for anything else assuming the evidence is commensurate with the claim), then of course I would believe it. How could I not?
It would only change my life if it could further be shown that said deity would inflict consequences for doing or not doing certain things. The mere fact that a deity existed would not be sufficient to cause me to change anything other than my belief in the existence of said deity.
