Neither item has a transformer, just a plug for which I can get a 3 prong adapter easily. To get a proper power converter is expensive. Also, cos of the PAL/NTSC conflict will a Japanese DVD player work in the UK anyway? I know already that it plays UK DVDs.

OK, the first two answers are right - more or less - about needing an power converter, but it depends!
I live in Japan, and all MY (non kitchen) appliances have AC 100 ~ 240v written on them! This means that my appliances only need a travel adaptor if I take them to England with me ... not an expensive power converter! (Incidentally, it would probably have been cheaper for you to buy it here in Japan, because lots of Japanese tourists need them! In the UK they're less popular, so more expensive.) So check your appliances, and if they have AC 100 ~ 240v on them then you're OK!
As for the DVD player, videos and DVDs have different region encoding systems, so if it can PLAY UK DVDs then you'll be able to see them on your TV ... if you look here,

you'll see that Japan and the UK are both region 2!! So there shouldn't be ANY problems...!!!!!!! (Famous last words!)

If you plug it into the wall you will blow out the power supply. It will ruin it. Get a power converter and never for get to use it. I have ruined several things because they were moved to another room and then I just plugged them in and !!! gone. It will fry in 10 seconds or less!
Another option is to take it in and have the technician change the power supply inside the box to match the voltage where you live. That would be the most convenient and safe way, but not the cheapest.

Do not use it without a travel adapter.......... you will blow it up, if you use it without... also, look at the rear of them... there maybe a voltage change screw there shouldn't be a problem playing discs here.. as most new tv's convert ntsc/pal automatically...

u looses all day daily...even as in a bathtub/bathe use a sponge or bathe puff ball...the added u scrub the added previous useless pores and skin u are eliminating, the added useless pores and skin u do away with, the added tan u are eliminating...to sidestep extra of a tan, use the optimal sort of sunlight show...and to bypass even farther than that, stay in doorways, or placed on lengthy sleeves and pants....
