After breeding dogs for the past 38 years, I too am amazed at the effectiveness of REVOLUTION.
You have to get it from your vet. some vets require heartworm testing first, but many don't, so call around.
I would most certainly use REVOLUTION. It prevents heartworm, fleas, and many other parasites. It is safe for pups and adults,
, and applies as drops to the back of the neck. Instead of putting poisons in to your dog you are protecting his skin from exposure.

Treat your yard periodically through out the summer.
Treat your house - make sure you use a product that has an insect growth regulator in it. Repeat the treatments on your house every three weeks for at least three treatments. Before treating your house, vaccuum thoroughly and dispose of the vaccuum bag (tie it up in a plastic bag and get it out of your house).
Treat your dog. I, personally, like frontline. If it is a small short-haired dog - use the spray. If not, use the drops. Treat every month. Do not use frontline 48 hours before or after a bath. Capstar can also be used in conjunction with the Frontline. It will kill all the fleas on your dog or cat - starting about 20 minutes after you give it and will work for about 24 hours.... enough time for the Frontline to kick in.
If you have a serious infestation and you do not take this three pronged approach, I don't believe you will ever get good control.

i use Advantage on my cat and ferrets. They have it for dogs too. Get it at your vets. You put it on the back of their necks once a month. It also kills fleas where the dog sleeps, plays, etc. Don't use the stuff at the pet store like Hartz, it doesn't work and can harm your pet. I used it on my cat and her eyes starting tearing profusely until i washed it off her. Hope this helps.

If you have a small dog, it might be easier just to bathe them in dish soap and use a flea comb. For a larger dog, maybe get them dipped, and use Frontline.
