Not sure we should intervene. Japan is right next to N. Korea and is in their sights from what I understand. They have a right to defend themselves. Besides, how much intervening has China done to N. Korea. China should be reigning in N. Korea for breaking all the treaties and promises they have.

Japan doesn't have anuclear program. They don't even allow US submarines or aircraft cariers with nuclear reactors into their ports. We have a conventional powered carrier being kept in service after the retirement date specifically because it is stationed there. We are negotiating to allow a future nuke carrier to be stationed there, and are being forced to redeploy all kinds of forces around the pacific to meet their demands.
Japan may militarize in the sense that their constitution prevents a large standing military or the use of force in any offensive way. They are in legal review to see if a preemptive strike to prevent attack on them would be legal, the jury is still out. If they up their military capability, which they have not so far threatened to do, it would take the burden off the US to defend them (saving us lots of money & freeing up ships/aircraft/troops for real missions), but would piss off China & Korea - so I'm all for it.

It's not going to happen as nuclear weapons are just not acceptable in Japan. Japan has the technical capability to construct nuclear weapons, but actually doing that would go down with the public about as well as if GWB announced he was a gay wiccan. It seems they didn't like that Hiroshima and Nagasaki thing.

The U.S. should run away and beg for forgiveness. Japan is dominating the world. Think hard how many products you cant live without is designed by Japan,China etc. Nokia, Sony etc. Japan is a superpower and has their fingers in so many pies, so be careful. Besides Japan has no oil so US wont interviene just like the little country called Zimbabwe.

They can't.. After WWII, they were basically neutered. Thats one of the reasons we have a fleet in Japan. The US would have a shitfit and would go alone like they did in Iraq and cause an international crisis. They'd be in serious violation of the surrender signed at the end of WWII

Do what we did with Germany during the cold war. Expand our 'nuclear umbrella' to their nation and place our nuclear weapons in Japan under dual-nation control. (The could only be fired if each nation provides their half of the launch codes.)

Not sure what you're talking about, or why...
In the way Japan's constitution is currently set, they are not allowed to have the capacity in their military to attack another nation invoking all out war. That doesn't rule out, however, the option to "pre-emptively" strike targets such as missile silos.
The fact that you brought up "nuclear" begs the question of whether or not you know what you're talking about...

They shouldn't or else lose more support from the Japanese population. Also, they really should lay off Japan. Are they really that scared of them that they would have so many troops on their soil ? With the occasional rape by servicemen?
