I'm dating this guy who I've been friends with for awhile. I thought I was terribly shy and inexperienced when it came to relationships, but this guy takes the cake. We started talking about becoming a couple 2 months ago and just recently started dating. The problem is he gets extremely nervous if I get too close to him (other than a hug). He's taking me on a vacation (just the two of us) which makes me even more confused as to how he can't work up the nerve to kiss me. That being said, there are two things I'm absolutely sure of. 1) He's straight as an arrow 2) he does not have another girlfriend and he hasn't had one for awhile.
Anyway, any suggestions? Any shy guys want to explain the cerebral functions of this fellow? Should I take it slower? Should I push the issue?

GEE hmmmm that sounds like the way my husband used to be over 16 yrs ago now. LOL
Ask him why he gets so nervous if you get close to him or try to hug him?
There has to be something more to this than just him being SHY!

Being a guy I have experienced this some in my own life about 12 years ago. I was in the same type of situation as he is in now. To me, I wanted to be close to the girl I was with but because of my lack of experience, I did not have the confidence in what I was doing. I was constantly questioning myself in my mind as to what was the proper thing to do in each moment. I am sure that is what he is doing as well. It just took me a matter of time to start feeling like I could be/do/ask for the things that I wanted in the relationship. Show him that you really do care about him and give him confidence by encouraging him and giving him hints as to what is appropriate for him to be doing in the relationship. He will come along...

I don't get it....He is shy yet he is taking you with him on vacation? Something doesn't add up here...A shy guy would be absolutely terrified to take you away on holidays with him. Sounds like a front to me...Once he has you alone, watch out!

Sounds kinda creepy to me. Really shy, then suddenly wants to go on vacation with you. As long as you're sure he's not a psychopath, then you should just take it slow with him.

Maybe he takes you seriously and has a great deal of respect for you. Maybe he wants to get to know you well before he tries to jump your bones. Maybe he had a sex change and can't figure out how to tell you.

Tried to make more conversation and tease him more to make him smile. Make him feel comfortable with you. He needs someone like you to start.
