The jury is still out. At present, HD-DVD uses a more efficient encoder (VC-1) than Blu-Ray (MPEG-2), and there is a question if the higher capacity of the Blu-Ray can make up the difference. I would wait a few months and look at high-end magazine reviews (Widescreen Review or The Perfect Vision) to see what the consensus is. I would think that Blu-Ray, with its higher capacity would have the edge if they went to VC-1 (which is reportedly supposed to happen).

Yeah as of right now they really are of equal footing. The tie breaker will really be the amount of media available on each format and the price point of the company's creating players for each format. I.e. more movies and lower cost players will determine the winner. hold out if you're considering purchasing.

supposedly theres a 200GB blu-ray disc thats been developed by tdk out there, so far i havent heard of anything like that from hd dvd. so far hd dvds have been getting poor reviews for quality too.

specs wise they are almost identical.
Capability.... well there is a long answer....in short Blu-ray is capable of way more then hddvd is. more storage better streaming and more...
