Maybe you should "rayarle la madre" to the wiseass that said it meant I love you mom.
the expression means to utter profanities to another person, of course in Latin America and Spanish speaking countries it is common to insult you by insulting your mother, especially by making reference to her having been f***ked or scr*w*d.
People usually use it somewhat like this:
say they were driving along in their car and some jerk just barged into the lane without even honking the horn, so of course a good Latino would tell them something offensive about their mother, quite unlike Anglos who insult the person directly by saying f*ck you or the like, with Latins they rayar la madre, meaning insulting you by insulting your mother.
Standard Latino insults of this kind include:
Hijo de la ch****ada, tostada, fregada
which might be like son of a *****, but of course stronger, making allusion to the mother of that person having been raped or that that person was actually born because his mother was used sexually either with her consent or without it. This stems from the fact that in many Latin American nations, the conquest by Spaniards and Portuguese did involve plenty of raped women whose offspring now populate those countries, call it a hangover from 500 years ago and a machista society where all women are bitches in heat except the mans female relatives.
It is complicated but that is more or less the reason why your mom reacted that way. Latin mothers are always on the receiving end of insults to their offspring. Rayar la madre meant that you would insult her making allusion to what I explained above.
A word to the wise, please do not use phrases you do not understand, play it safe and find out what it means before even uttering them. Your mom should receive an apology from you and the explanation, she´s your mom, she'll understand, and ditch the hijo de la tostada that told you otherwise. How rude.
Good Luck

It means you rallo the Mother. If you want to speak Spanish nicely just meet a nice Puertorican in person and let them teach you. I'm up for grabs

Basically, from what I could find out, you said, "mother you annoy me" That's probably why you got slapped!! By the way the spanish word for love is Amor!! Rallo means to "irk" or "annoy"

I speak Spanish since I am Colombian, and I understand what that means, but its kind of hard to explain it in English, but it does not mean "I Love You Mom", it is more like a very bad insult.
good luck, and i suggest you ask what something means if you don't really know what it means.

Um...yeah. You just insulted HER mother. And I agree with the person before me..you should never say something that you don't know the meaning to. Savvy? And...no, I'm not going to tell you what it means.
