Statistically, that's true. Maybe or maybe not on a single 4-year hitch, but if you go in for a 20-year career, it's a virtual certainty.

No. But right now it's likely. Especially if one joins the Reserves or National Guard. My friend came home from Iraq. He said they are so needy and short of people there, that if you join the Navy you find yourself in an Army uniform with a Navy insignia, "on loan" to an Army outfit in Iraq. Same for Air Force. First duty is in Iraq in an Army uniform. He says it is awful, we are so understaffed. He and his buddies worked eighteen hours a day at times. It would not be popular on the home front to send in more troops, especially regular Army, so the ones over there really suffer from inadequate staff.

If you stay in long enough or go in during a high level action in another country it is ALMOST certain. There are a few jobs that will keep you in this country though. Think about it...... what would be so necessary to the military and so secret that you could not leave this country? (I didn't get that lucky--on a 3 year enlistment I spent 2 years in the U. S. and 1 year in the Mekong Delta.)

In ways yes, but it depends what part of the military you join theres a lot of different things the military can take place in. Some people who join the military stay here, like the National Guard a lot of them leave but there are still plenty here to protect parts of the U.S.
