Oh My!!! Did you bring back memories!!! My cat ALWAYS did that, and I was constantly on her butt about it trying to keep her away from them because of the petroleum they are made with, the possibility of smothering, strangling and such. Now this is a cat that didn't give up and I could hear her messing with plastic bags a mile away (my husband wasn't as diligent as I was). One day, She got herself in a jam with one and came sailing up the stairs to have us help her take one off of her. She had managed to put her neck through the two loops, and it looked like a cape on her, and she didn't like it one bit. Instead of fighting it, she came up for us to take it off, and never messed with another one. She's 19 and still alive and kicking now. From that day forward, we called it her "Supercat Incident." LOL! I have no idea why they do that, but she tried every chance she got to get on a "plastic bag high," which is what it looked like to me until Supercat decided it wasn't a good idea. LOL!

My cat also licks plastic bags but I've noticed that he only does it when he is hungry. Usually around 5:00 am in the morning I am awaken by the crunching sound. I found that feeding him smaller portions more often throughout the day and also a late night snack before bed, keeps him from doing this.

My cat only licks two different plastic bags the one with its cat food in it and the bag with the catnip in it.

My cat loves to lick plastic bags as long as he is in control. If I pick up a plastic bag he runs in fear... he is a strange one.

ya know. i don't know. my cat does the same thing. its not just plastic bags either. he would just walk up to anything made of plastic and lick it. you know the clear tape, he licks it too. i cut a piece and stuck it to the carpet. he came by and kept licking it. i thought maybe there was catnip around, but my other cat doesn't do it. when you find out y tell me.

Cats go by what feels good to them, cats like to eat or lick things that are smooth.Cats like the way it feels on it's tongue,so that's probably why.

Actually, I read that plastic bags have animal fat in them, (that's one of the "ingredients.")

I personally think they just like to annoy their owners; my cat does it all the time.

Mine does too! He actually will chew the handles off if we forget to hide them from him. Then he throws it up, of course. I think he's trying to get rid of a hairball or he just likes the taste. My girl cat doesn't do it, though. They both like to eat grass also. Guess it helps with digestion and hairballs also.
