No thief has dignity. Dignity means to exalt or give respect to. A shoplifter stealing for any reason, and one - excuse me but - so lame as they wanted something to eat, will receive no respect from me. Between the two I would respect the illegal first. At least they provide some service for what they are stealing. The majority of them work at jobs most legals won't do, for longer hours and less pay than the average 17 yo pimpled face, ungrateful kid makes. Then, they save and scrimp, living in small places with more people than most would ever care to, and send their savings home to their family who is depending on them for their survival. A shoplifter of "something to eat" gives nothing in return and ultimately costs any one that works - including the illegal, more for the things we buy than is necessary. I have traveled around the world and I can tell you this - if someone needs something to eat there are places they can go that have devoted their time, effort and money to see that they can get something. If there isn't a "soup kitchen" there's some church, school or similar group everywhere that the person, if they would give as much effort in finding them as they give into finding a way to steal, they would probably eat more and much more healthier, than you or I do - and better than most illegals. At least most illegals give before they take - you can't say that about a thief.

There are ways to make money to pay for food, and illegal alien has enough dignity not to let their families do without why do you think they come here. Do you think they want to come to a unknown country where there is so much hate. A shoplifter has enough will to steal they have enough to find a way to eat. By far an illegal has more dignity, they work for what they get.

7 years ago my sister came to America with a tourist visa for up to one year. I paid for her return airfare. While she was here she worked as a care giver earning $1,000 per month on a live in basis. She did that for two months until she found a much better paying job working as a sales associate in a very well known department store. She did that for three months, then she moved on and worked as a temp and landed a job in the Embarcadero District in San Francisco earning top dollars. Before her visa expired she went back to our country, went home to her two little children and husband. The money she had saved and accumulated while working here for one year had given her family a headstart in life which they will never dream of earning in our country. She was able to own and operate a business, send her children to school, and live a comfortable life. She did what she did and had taken the risk for the love of her family.
Shoplifters to eat, I am not sure about so much. Here in America, we have government institutions that helps low income so that everybody can have a food to eat during meal time. There are also plenty of jobs need to be filled in this country. No one should shoplift to eat because there are many options available for us in this country compare to the third world country where my sister came from.

None. The shoplifter should seek first a job before stealing. The illegal needs to wait in line with the rest of them.

I think that people should be more tolerant of illegal immigrants. The U.S. took land away from American Indians and from the Mexicans, both of whom were on the North American continent before us. They really have more of a right to be here than we do. We are really the immigrants. We came from England, Germany, Ireland, etc.
To answer your question, an illegal alien has more dignity.

the shoplifter, they are just trying to survive, and you cant do that without food. The illegals on the other hand, just want more money than they get in mexico.

Neither. There are places to go for help - no one needs to steal, EVER! There are so many people willing to help someone in need. There is no excuse for stealing. If you need something to eat, go to a food bank or a soup kitchen. Go to the Salvation Army or any Church and there will be help. As well, they will help you to get on your feet and find work and give you emotional support until you get there. No one has to steal what there is always someone to give.

I haven't seen 1 report yet of any one going to a hospital for starving or severe malnutrition from another country.

But that most could understand that as a reason for coming in Illegally.

Others are the just I want more---and if that is causing problems----than we have a right to say go home.

the shoplifter is a criminal, and the illegal is a criminal. they are both breaking the law.i dont see where either one has any dignity.the shoplifter needs to get a job, to feed his or her self. and the illegal just came to this country for a free ride.both criminals.
