1 Samuel 15:-
After Saul had failed to carry out God's command utterly destroy the Amalekites, God said to Samuel, " I greatly regret that I have set up Saul as king". ( 1 Sam 15:1 )

However, in 1 Sam 15:29,Samuel states that God is not a man that He should repent. How can God say that He regretted setting up Saul as king when other passages assert that God does not repent or change His mind?

God gives us free will. He had a path for Saul. He knew Saul could have been a great king. Samuel was saying God never has to apologize he doesn't make mistakes. He has greatness in store for all of us. We just have to follow His path. Does he feel hurt or sad when we don't?...YES. However they are not his mistakes they are ours so why would he repent?

Because Saul did not keep God's commandments. He went on war and defiled himself with other nations by bringing home their females, animals, etc when he was warned not to do it. He also consulted man (Samuel - although he is a prophet) instead of God Himself. He even called his spirit asking for advice using a medium when then practice is forbidden. Saul can be forgiven by God, but his lack of wisdom, anger and bitterness, and laziness to reach out to God by himself, in the end cost him his crown.

I guess faith it self is not enough to enter God's Kingdom. We must also strive to do good. when we fall, we need to always repent and humbly pick ourselves up and move on.

People have the free will to choose right from wrong. Saul was picked but due to his tendency to practice witchcraft... he chose to disobey God... and that led Samuel to replace Saul with David;
a man after God's heart.

I don't know what bible you are reading but i have never heard that before, but then again I'm not a expert in this field, you should consult a Baptist preacher for the truth of the word.
