I would like to know if anyone has suggestions for some really good and powerful self-help books that I could check out from my library. I'm a very anxious, worrisome, and sometimes depressed person and I can't afford therapy right now. If there is some book that has truly changed your life-something you swear by-please let me know the title/author. Thanks!

The first one that comes to mind isn't called a mental health book, but it has done more for me than any mental health book: The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron. If you can, find a group to work it with. It is even more powerful that way.
Another one that I read long ago but that I still use is Taming Your Gremlin, by Rick Carson.
Shad Helmstetter's books and tapes on talking back to your self-talk are also helpful.
Self-help workbooks by Mary Ellen Copeland are pretty good.
On The Edge of Darkness by Kathy Cronkite is a really good general book on depression, but not really self-help. William Styron's book (Darkness Visible) is a great description of how depression feels for someone who's never been there, but if you've been there, you don't need to be reading something this negative and hopeless.
I hope this helps. Remember that such organizations as the Mental Health Association and the Alliance for the Mentally Ill may be able to refer you to free or low-cost therapists.
Good luck.

There are numerous people who would make fun of the possibility of changing their destinies. This is because it believes that no one gets more that what is put in his fate.
