Who have you met who is opposed to mutts? I've owned both mutts and purebreds. I regularly compete in both Obedience and Herding with my dogs, I know a number of breeders of purebred dogs and I don't think I have ever met anyone who turns up their nose at mutts. Even the official sanctioning organizations, such as the AKC, are not opposed to mutts. True, you can't enter a mutt in an AKC conformation ("Best of Show") competition, but that's not a prejudice. The conformation show is all about judging a dog in relation to the standards of perfection for that particular dog's breed. If a dog doesn't have a specific breed, there is no standard against which to measure it, so competing would not be possible. It isn't about judging the best dog - it is about judging the best example of a specific breed. On top of that, every other AKC sanctioned event, from Obedience to Herding to Tracking to Agility to Flyball and on and on is open to all dogs, purebred and mutt alike. Some people prefer purebreds because they increase their chances of owning a dog that will look a particular way and possess certain personality traits. Others prefer mutts because they generally have fewer health problems and adopting a shelter or rescue dog is a very thoughtful thing to do. But if you've encountered people who are opposed to mutts, my 45+ years of experience with dogs tells me that they are a very, very small minority - and probably not very nice people.

Not all people are, but those that are opposed to mutts usually think that Pure bred dogs are better because they think it is some kind of status symbol or wardrobe accessory that makes you better than everyone else. Personally I love all dogs no matter what the breed it just makes me sad that people breed dogs with congenital problems that lead to suffering just for money. I love mutts because they are unique each and every one and multi purpose. I love purebred dogs because they are beautiful and specialized. I would never go out and buy a dog from a breeder though I would only rescue ANY breed of dog.

I'm not opposed to mutts, but I've seen a lot of people who think mutts are not as special as purebreds...as if they're a lower status of dog... I love crossbreeds and purebreds just the same...

They were all mutts once. The Bichons are descended from the ancient ancestors of the Poodle, the Barbet, a water spaniel. Which means they mixed them then worked on the breed. I have three silky-pins a breed in the making. A Silky Terrier Mom and a Miniature pincer dad. Just gorgeous and calm and I just love them. they are 6 months now and awesome. I live in Ontario Canada and we went to Iowa to get these from my friend. I wanted a miniature Pincer but when I saw these sweeties game over. It is true that first generation mixes are the healthiest. Your baby sounds very sweet. â¥Love my Dogs

I try to promote mutts. I've never had a pure bred in my life, but my sister in law has a pure bred Black Lab and she is the stupidest dog I ever met. The mutts in my life have been intelligent, loyal, friendly and protective all in one. Thank you for being a champion for the mutts!

many mutts are much more adorable and sweet natured then purebreds but the thing is-its sickening to breed dogs that are mixes and sell them for a high price while u can just adopt one. for ex. cockapoo, labradoodle. these are wonderful dogs but come on-$1600 for a mix? but there is nothing wrong w/ mutts-who cares, purebred or mix? they are both loving animals

my mutt is awesome! I'm not even particularly fond of dogs, and I love her to pieces. My mom's (purebred) dogs are all neurotic. One developed rage syndome because of poor breeding and had to be put down because he started to attack people and the other dogs. One is just psychotic... (she says otherwise, but really, the dog CANNOT go to the bathroom by herself, tries to kill herself when there's thunderstorms and... well, I could go on) the other is just about unable to be potty-trained (in his defense though, he was a rescue animal and had been horrendously abused).
Mutts are just happier dogs.

I'm not opposed to mutts, I'm opposed to breeding them on purpose, and charging real money for them and trying to pass them off as pure bred dogs

I think mutts are great. I had a dog namrd Muttley who was 16 when she died and was never sick a day in her life until the last week or so. Now I have a mixed breed named Cliffy, and he is wonderful.

I am not opposed to either, I just personally prefer the purebred dogs better. I like to know what to expect with size, temperment, coloration, etc.
