I have 2 Shih Tzu's and recently spent $200 on clippers to have them burn out after six weeks. I would like to learn how to groom them correctly and am hoping there is a book or website available to research.

if your clippers burned out that fast you were probally running them hot or there was somthing wrong with them in the first place. try taking them back. i use oster performax and i really like them. as for how to groom them there really is no substitue for experiance or trial and error. what i would recomend is brushing them out then combing them through compleatly then taking a 4 or a 7 blade (the 4 is a bit longer) and going with the direction of the hair over the body and down the legs. to do under the arms hold the arm out to the side and use the 10 blade to go in the direction of the hair. leave the tail nice and fluffy and stop at the base of the scull at the back of the head. the head is the hard part, but i'll try to explaine what i like to do. start with a 10 on your clippers and make kind of a diamond shape between the eyes scooping out the areas where you would get tear stains. take the 3 starting between the eyes and go up and over each eyebrow following the direction of the hair. then with curved sicsors hold the ear out to the side and make the line of the hair curve naturally into the face. holding the ear up and out of the way use the backs of the curves to blend the side of the face into the body. then use the curved part of the siscors to round the bottem of the face and neaten the visor line above the eyebrows that you created with the clippers. use your 40 blade to shave the fur out of the pads of the feet, then use your siscors neeten the legs and to round the feet and your good to go. dont worry if you dont get it right away, it takes practice. oh and make sure you get cool lube or something for your clippers. its not good to run the blades hot.
sorry about the spelling i cant get the spell check to work

Well, the best clippers are your andis, you also need to but some clipper cool or clipper wiz , this keeps your clippers from over heating. also you need to but a # 7 blade for body and a #40 for the feet, your clipper set should have came with a #10,this is used for the sani area. you could also go to a petco or pet groomer or even your vet to show you the best way to groom you dogs . Petco has aFREE groomimg dvd in the salon.I am a groomer.
P.S. NEVER, NEVER , BUY A SKIP TOOTH, if you don't know what you are doning you could rip your dogs flesh wide open.

make sure you comb it every day so its fur wont get all matted up toe nail clippers work as good as dog clippers, and as for cutting its fur i have no idea i'd take it to a dog groomers place, petsmart has one. :-)

i dont know really but poodles and yorkies should be brushed from tail to nose. then they shake their hair into place.brushing like this hurts sooo much less.
