What inspires you? Take pictures of that.
If you are interested in selling, try stock photography.
But for now, I suggest a variety of subjects until you discover what you enjoy, because that subject will be your best!

Well firstly what interests you? Still life? Landscape? Portrait? That is the first thing for you to decide.
Still Life: Look for things that catch your eye, either found as is, or objects you put together yourself. A good practise activity for this is to choose a theme and then try to do a bunch of different angles, closeups, lighting. I did a project on graveyards, there were some surprisingly beautiful shots waiting there. Or see how many ways you can photograph the same object to get a feel for it.
Landscape. This is not my personal favourite, so I don't have alot to suggest about it. Look for scenes in nature that you can image seeing in a picture I guess...sorry, not much advise for you there.
Portrait: This is my favourite type. I like to go out and catch pictures of people just being real people. (though I like to catch some freaky people on film too) I also like photographing friends who serve as models. Again play with angles, and shadows. Crop really close for intimacy or farther back for more of an 'on the outside watching' view. You can do very staged work with interesting poses and expressions, or very natural work (candid photos).
The main thing is keep trying new things to see how it comes out in pictures. Have fun!

You talk about practicing your photography skills, but is there an area you'd like to hone? Photographing nature won't do any good if you plan on being a children's photographer. Spending hours photographing models and friends is pointless if you plan on photographing only architecture.
The best advise I can give is to sit down and grab a few sheets of paper. Label each paper with something that interests you. Then write down all the ideas you can think of that would express the heading at the top. Start from there, go through and make a photo-journal of each heading using the checklist you created.

Photography is the one of the trickiest and easiest forms of art. Photography was meant to capture a moment you'll never have again. Those normally make the best photos. But artistic photos normally require some planning and attention to form, details, shadows, lighting, etc. Everyday objects can be seen in a different perspective and can be art forms, really. Nature offers many opportunities for colors, and shapes as well; which a lot of professionals looks for. People can be interesting subjects. Capture a silly face of a child or record a lifetime of pain in one snap. Photography is an incredible outlet for an artist, and its not very hard to find something that will insprire your inner muse.

It doesn't really matter what you take a photo of. Just try to find a new, unique way of taking that photo. make that simple apple look like a work of art by taking it from an usual angle, with wonderful light on it, or maybe from above. The goal is to make people look at it and think "wow--I would never have thought of that!". You want to hit them emotionally, just as much as impress them with the mechanical part of picture taking. think outside the box!

Try to follow a theme - like "tempest in a teapot". Since you like tea, photograph some people having tea, but the focus would be not on the teapot or cup, but on how tea calms people, binds them together, gives them the ability to go on to great things, etc. Other than just taking beautiful photos or those that show interesting people, it is really interesting to have some psychological contrasts at work or contrasting images. For example, if you photograph a beautiful calm harbor scene, then go back at sunset when the water seems to be alive on fire.

As a former professional photographer, I can tell you there are millions of ideas.
You can't photograph them all and excel at them all.
Find what interests you the MOST and concentrate on that. If you make that your center of interest, in time you wil become an expert on the subject and may find some fame with it....maybe.
There are MILLIONS of photographers. Only a small percentage actually find significant success.
Therefore, find a bullseye.... find a target for you and concentrate on it.

Think of things unusual that most people wouldn't look twice at. Pictures up close are really amazing because they can look completely different and artistic. TRY:
Water flowing in a ditch
Pebbles in a driveway
The suds in your dishwater
I hope you get where I'm trying to go or you'll be laughing at me.
My point is to take something over-looked and ordinary and photograph it to look amazing.
Get it?
GOOD LUCK

Architectural art {buildings}, monuments, people on the streets., if you travel overseas, take photos of things that are from America like a Mc Donald's or KFC, Americans traveling abroad or nature in general. You'll find things. Have fun!!!
