I wanna be a vehicle mechanic. Which branch would be cooler and help me get a good career as a Vehicle Mechanic in the civilian world?

Navy: CM, Construction Mechanic. (Part of Seabees)
They work on all kinds of vehicles both gas/diesel engines.
Buses, dump trucks, bulldozers, rollers, cranes, backhoes, Pile drivers and other heavy equipment and vehicles.

Air Force: General Purpose Vehicle Maintenance Apprentice.
Work on sedans, pick up trucks, vans, buses, cargo trucks, tractors and trailers.

Which would be better to be a good, well trained vehicle mechanic in the civilian world?

P.S...........I am hoping Seabees. They seem way cooler. And they don't get on ships. Very Rare. They deploy for 6 months. Ten months they are on-base training.

As a retired Navy Vet, I will of course tell you to go Navy. I was going to go Airforce when I joined many years ago but they were always telling me "what they were not going to be able to do for me after all". I got tired of that and went Navy. The Seabees are a proud group that have a very long and famous Navy history. Think about it, after you get out and serve your time, what would you want to put on you resume? General Purpose Maintenance Apprentice (Airforce) or Seabees and list what they schooled you in. I know who I would hire. Go Navy!

Air Force also deploys for 2-6 month rotations. Vehical Mechanics all services though are detailed to one year tours in Iraq. They go on regular convoy duty to fix vehicals while under fire. All service engineers (CBs) also are on one year rotations.

Why don't you consider an Aviation Mechanic specialty. You'd make 4-5 times more money later as a civilian, deploy for shorter periods, & not be in direct combat. You'll like that job a hell of a lot more, trust me.

If you're picking AF vs Navy, I say AF but I'm biased. Both will take good care of you versus the other services.

Go Navy. Being on a ship isn't so bad as you might think, though. If you aren't an idiot, the more important thing is to learn the skills and use them. When you get out, it will show if you are good at what you do. Think about taking advantage of other schooling while you are in the military, also. You might end up going farther than you planned.....

Good luck.

P.S. The Navy has better promotion schemes, so you end up getting advanced faster than the Air Force in most cases.

Go Navy without a doubt. The Air Force will feed you better tasting food and you will probably advance faster which gives you more money but if you enlist in the Navy you will see the world first hand. They have a good uniform for the most part. Recruit Training is easy and depending on the job you choose you can make rate fast.

Definately go with the Seabees. You actually get to work on Humvees and pick ups. I was in NMCB 40 for 5 years and I loved it. Training is great and the home ports are Gulf Port Ms. and Port Hueneme Ca. Good luck and make the right choise.

Go Navy. That particular job will allow you better opportunities once you get out. Diesel mechanics are in high demand right now. You could get a good job with a construction company working on the things you worked on in the Navy.

From personal exp. the navy would better, Sea-bees travel a lot, often to frontline combat to build with army engineers, it can be more physical than basework which is what you would be doing in Airforce, plus the Navy Seabees will let you strike for other careers even after your trained in one rate. GO Navy oh ya Sea-bees build with guns strapped to their back, and will fight as good as trained infantry to defend what they build

Army Rangers lead the way. But you should pick Sea bees. Way cooler, more prestige, and a way cooler history. Hope you like building and destroying stuff on the front lines. Don't go into the Air Force - too easy, it takes balls to be on the front lines. Stay Frosty.

I would go Navy, they learn how to fight and defend what they build. The Seabees kick *** the Air Force just drinks coffee and stand around doing nothing.
