Go with him to the doctor and request that he take a Sleep Study test. It will show if he has Apnea. If he does, and it is bad enough, doc will prescribe a mask that goes over hubby's face that will cause the snoring to stop. It will also give him the best night's sleep he's had in ages.
A friend of mine tried some shots in the soft palette that he said worked. They inject something to harden the palette so it can't vibrate and make the noise.
There is another treatment they do with lasers that cut away some of the vibrating skin I think, which stops the snoring.
He can lose weight if he's fat.
He should sleep on his side.
You should wear ear plugs.

Start with the simple things first. If he is lying on his back when he is snoring, gently turn him over onto his side. That usually stops it. Some people actually sew tennis balls into the back of pajama tops so if the person lies on their back during the night they will automatically turn. Breath-Right Strips can help if the problem is a nasal obstruction, but otherwise they won't help. If the snoring continues despite your efforts, you will want him to see the family doctor for a recommendation to either an ear-nose-throat doctor or a sleep disorder specialist. I'm going through this struggle right now. Word of warning: He probably will refuse to go.

Sleep aphnea (sp?) is a severe condition actually. If its chronic thing with your husband it actually could mean that he stops breathing for several minutes and then wakes himself when his body realizes that its being deprived of oxygen. Since he might be waking himself many times a night he also could feel unrested and tired through out the day, adding to a already stressful condition. I think my boyfriend might actually have the same problem, but best thing would be to talk to his doctor about it with him to see if its severe enough to consider the operation for it. My mother's boss had the operation and was well off afterwards.-good luck

You can try those silly nose strips some times they help. If not the just put a pillow over his head and hold down firmly untill he stops moving. LOL JK If the strips don't work talk to your doc there are other options.

have him get a sleep study test. this is where your husband will sleep while being monitored by techs or nurses. they will be able to test for apnea, which causes snoring and can be very harmful to the body as apneaproduces periods of not breathing which depriv e the body of oxygen (bad). if he is positive for sleep apnea, they can get him a machine such as a bipap or cpap which provides him with additional oxygen while he sleeps which counteracts the apnea and makes sure he gets the oxygen he needs.

A swift kick, elbow, or slap may work, but by then you are already awake.
There has been an air breathing device, Nasal CPAP, for a while, but it is quite cumbersome looking. More recently they have developed the pillar implant linked below.

try seeing a doctor. there are a lot of remedies out there, from nasal strips, to throat spray. if that don't work, make him wear a shirt to beg that has a tennis ball sewn to the center of the back. it sounds weird, but when he tries to sleep in his back, (the most common position for deep snoring) he will become uncomfortable, and role back to his side. the dr. is still the best bet.

My father used to have a massive snoring problem, and it drove my mom nuts. He went to a sleep clinic (we made him do it - he didn't see any problem) and they diagnosed him with sleep apnea. He got a device that he wears while he sleeps, and it as eliminated the snoring when he wears it.
On the downside, he complains that its uncomfortable, and he doesn't like to wear it all the time, but he sleeps better when he does wear it.
Now if only we could get our dogs to stop snoring... :-)

Those Breathe Right Nasal Strips are an unobtrusive thing to try. They open the air passages and are supposed to help. You can buy them at any drug store. Or just smack him all night.
