i think he's just asking for attention because he claims he cuts himself &is suicidal, but i have never seen scars yet or any reason for me to believe he is suicidal. He has not attempted it yet. I'm just scared because he's one of my good friends &i really love him a lot. &i don't want him to screw up his life.

You don't . Love them unconditionally as they are and live your life by your own truths. they have their own lessons to learn and you could be interfering with them by trying to make them into something they are not ready for.

Eeek! a cutter...
Don't confront him on his lack of visible scars. It may be he cuts himself somewhere covered. Don't tell him you don't think he would really ever commit suicide. That is like daring him to do it.

It may be he is crying out for attention.
Attention is what he needs. You can talk to your parents, his parents, or to school counselors. Even if they don't confront him directly, they may be able to provide you the support you need. It might not be the sort of attention he wants... but he's asked for it.
It bothers me when people just write off desperate acts like these, saying, "Oh, they're just out for attention." And... walk away.

Being a cutter is not the same as being gothic. He may be gothic on top of all of this, but they are not the same. The gothic community can really be a lifesaver, literally. When it seems that there is no one who understands and the whole world hates you, suddenly there is a bunch of people who have survived similar experiences, lived to tall the tale... It can be a much-needed support and comfort. It looks a little spooky, but it's not all bad.

Remember to first and foremost keep yourself safe.
Don't screw up your life for his sake.

Even if he is not cutting himself or trying to committ suicide, I believe he is calling out for help. You should talk to some of the other people that are close to him to see if they notice this also and then get him some help. As far as being "gothic", (by how he looks/dresses?), I don't think it matters as long as he can get and keep a job. If you don't like him for that, you're not a very good friend.

Gothic? I don't get the connection. If he says he is suicidal you should encourage him to get help, join a support group, get on medication for depression or such. Lots of people cut themselves--it is more common than most people realize and may or may not be serious. It doesn't seem to me that being gothic is in itself the problem. But you should encourage him to talk and also to seek help.

OkAy... wtf?

Um... firstly, saying that you're "goth" is not a good thing. It's a stereotype.

If he does it for attention, he'll either crawl out of the void in his heart with age, or kill himself in a desperate way to get him mummy to hug him.

Believe me, I used to do stuff like that. I still sometimes give it an old one-two to the arm, but i don't discuss it with people. It IS a great way to get attention, but it's stupid and foolish.

You wouldn't really understand unless you've been through the pre-teen stage.

He doesn't need you to persuade him to change or any psychiatrist. He needs a parent with a paddle.

I still dress differently, but I dress as I feel. Tell him to stop being the stereotype and GROW UP.

You pray and ask GOD to give you direction as to what you should say to him.

Pray that the HOLY SPIRIT will guide you with words that will help him understand that he not alone and by himself Just continue to pray for him

Oh and if he's telling you that he's suicidal that's all the proof that you need he's asking for help make sure that when he talks with you that you do not judge him just be a friend

LISTEN TO HIM AND JUST BE THERE FOR HIM

This is a tricky situation. Just because you have seen no signs of your friend's being suicidal does not mean he isn't. My suggestion is, take him seriously. I would also suggest talking to him and try to convince him to seek counseling, or even talk to another adult about it yourself. Your friend obviously needs help. Tell him you are worried about him and why. Try to help him in any way you feel is necessary.

If he says he is suicidal, even if you dont believe him, treat him as if you knew he was. Dont give him any special attention, but do change the way you act towards him. If he sees this, he may realize that he is hurting you.

God bless and good luck.

Gothic? As in wearing black clothes and dark makeup and such? Personally, I find that fashion statement or whatever it is to be silly, but I don't know that I would consider it anyone's business except the person who does it. It's certainly no one's right to tell them not to.

Gothic is a lifestyle and a fashion statement. Gothic people can believe in God & Jesus.

If your concerning is that he's suicidal, then you should talk to someone about it.

If your only concern is that he is a "goth" (and that seems to be bothering you more than his potentially suicidal behaviour) then it is none of your business and while you can certainly express your concern or opinion (respectfully of course) if he chooses to continue his lifestyle it's his perogative and none of your concern.
