My daughter got out of the Navy in September of last year. She loved boot camp after the initial home sickness because she likes all the physical fitness stuff. At the end of boot camp she got her 1st assignment. Guess where it was to? Pearl Harbor in Oahu!! Needless to say, her mom (me) went to visit her a couple times while she was there. She made pretty good friends and had a boyfriend and her own apartment and a new car and all the fun stuff. And she really liked her job and the strictness of the military life. She also got to go all over the world while she was on her 6 month deployment. Austrialia, the Carribean Islands, Japan, the parts of the Middle East that are fairly stable, and a few more places that I can't remember right now. She had a blast roaming around with her friends in the different countries.
Now comes the bad part and I'm telling you this as a warning. You are a pretty girl as is my daughter. There are just not a lot of pretty women in the military. I know that sounds bad but it really is true. She was raped her second year there...by a fellow sailor. It messed her up mentally for a while mainly because her stupid C.O.'s who promised they would get the pervert off her ship and out of Hawaii didn't get the perv anywhere away from her. She kept running into him on the docks and stuff. He would stare at her with a s_h_i_t_t_y smirk and really messed with her head until she had had enough and asked to get out of the Navy early. So they let her out with an honorable discharge. Thank God.
So please be careful out there, for that reason and the fact that you might be going onto the front line or close to it. Keep your head down friend!! And God Bless you.

A good thing to do is to talk to people that have already been in and not the people at the recruiters office. You don't want a one sided look at anything in life especially a profession that could end up taking yours. Serving in the military is Noble and patriotic but comes with a price. What I experienced though was people that had HUGE ego problems that were miserable and wanted to take it out on everybody. Misery loves company. If you have even an once of the following, stubbornness, rebel mentality, hot bloodedness, etc..... this is not a great decision to go into this branch, they like to challenge you for it endlessly. I often say that the new motto of the Army should be "Bend over and grabb your ankle's" ha ha Also, keep your paperwork of your signing bonus close to you and don't lose it, they will try to say that if you don't have it with you at reception at your duty station, you don't get your bonus. Just a tip if you do sign up. Also, ***IMPORTANT*** read up on STOP LOSS. This is where you serve your 4 years and then all of a sudden, guess what? This is your lucky day, you have to serve another whole year whether you like it or not. YIPPEE!!!! Hope this helps, this is an honest answer, you may not like but at least it's truthful. Good luck, and consider the Coast Guard, Navy, or Air force instead. Don't just follow the money.

While I commend you on wanting to join the army WHY are you doing it? The military isn't about money (ask anyone who is serving) you can make much more money in civilian jobs. If you are just wanting to follow the money you might want to look into taking some college credits and getting a job instead of a career with the US Armed Forces
