it is not wrong. we have sex for two reasons:
1. to bond with our partners and get to know them better
2. to procreate
there is nothing wrong with having sex with your spouse for pleasure, as long as you are married to that person.

I don't know about horrible.
Here is my experience.
In the end, you believe that appetites (like sex or a sweet tooth) should be controlled or should not. Many say eat, drink, and be merry for tomorrow we die, eat until you weigh 300 pounds, why not. The why not is because momentary pleasure does not bring happiness. Others say, control your urges, discipline yourself. Find out what is RIGHT and do that. Things that are RIGHT don't often bring instant gratification (sometimes they do) but they always maximize happiness.
Sex is hardwired into humans as an emotional experience. You can not separate them (and how could anybody tell if a dolphin was having sex just for fun?).
Women suffer more from the culture of recreational sex than do men, but for everyone, it changes the way they view people of the opposite gender, it changes the dynamics of nuclear family.
Sex is a powerful thing (like electricity). Treat it like a toy (to play with) and it will wreck you. Within a marriage where both people are emotionally and legally committed to each other, it is full of pleasure, fun, and power.

Sometimes you may think you love a person, but once you think about spending you're entire life with that person and no one else, things might change, and if they do then you're in the relationship for the wrong reasons. Marriage is just a garantee of true feelings on both sides. Not to say that people don't get married for the wrong reasons... It's really unfortunate how much of a joke marriage has become. You know what, you are right. If you know for certain that you love a person and wholeheartedly want to spend the rest of you're life with them, and you know they feel the same, why not. Marriage is just a word, if you already have the feelings theres no point in waiting for a special day to show them.

Recreational sex is not horrible unless you make it so. Recreational sex between two consenting adults can be a great thing. With the combonation of our mammal insticts and human emotions, we can use our desires for passion and intimacy in both positive and negative ways.
By having sex without regard to whom you choose as your partner(s) and whenever desired, you can create a very negative and possibly immoral lifestyle. Society commonly passes judgement on people who practice such sexual behaviors.
By having sex while having regard for your own personal health (mental & physical) and for that of your partner(s), you can deffinately enjoy having sex recreationally. Generally speaking, the better sort of recreational sex is with limitation and some restraint with consideration to health and your own personal moral values.
Recreational sex between two committed persons who have entered into a monogomous relationship is nothing to be ashamed of or to consider wrong. So long as you share the passion and desire to pleasure each other physically and emotionally, you shouldn't have to feel that you are doing anything wrong by showing your partner love and affection in a sexual way.

Who says that recreational sex is horrible? I don't think it's horrible. Is that statement Biblical? Sex is an intimate and sacred, but pleasure too. That's the way God had invented it, and getting pleasure from sex is not a sin if it's in a monogomous blessed relationship.

I know I'll sound naive but I never had recreational sex and don't really know what it really is. I mean I can figure it out, but it isn't really in my world as something to talk about. I suppose that's the answer to so many unwanted pregnancies, std's and HIV today.......I agree with you. Sex is something to share in a monogomous relationship only & involving two people who truly care about one another. Any other way is just making fun of what is supposed to be a blessing from above.........

I do not think that occasional recreational sex is the worst thing in the world, if a couple had an established deep emotional bond, expressed and enhanced through romantic lovemaking.
It is reduced to just another physical pleasure on par with "ice cream or golf" (you get the idea), when it is used for selfish purposes; and that could be selfish by mutual consent. I think it degrades the act, and insults other party.

Well, besides the fact that we're supposedly smarter than animals....
1. Unwanted, and unplanned pregnancy.
2. STDs.
3. HIV
Personally, I have no issues with someone wanting to have sex not within the confines of marriage. However, I think you diminish the beauty of the act when it becomes nothing more than horizontal aerobics. Plus, if you're going to turn it into an athletic event, than you need to make sure your equipment isn't putting you in the position of being responsible for a child, and is protected from the possibility of disease.

monogomous relationship! that's the key. i don't think god meant monogomous temporarily, i think he actually means in a relationship for life. so yes in that meaning, sex is recreational. for someone to say otherwise (sounds like a woman who hasn't had any the right way) is wrong. Alot of rules made by the church (or translated) are men who felt women were the weaker sex, but also the ones that felt is was a woman's blame for enticing men of falling short of god's ways. women were to blame when men succumbed to their sexual needs. (is it just me or doesn't it seem men don't seem to have any self control?) and i think most animals have sex for pleasure....have you ever heard two cats going at it? i heard pigs have orgasms for over 30 minutes? if it wasn't pleasurable....species would die at at some point.....
also...who's spending the money to research on what animals actually have sex for pleasure? that's kind of a gross project
i digress.....we are given the urge and pleasure to have sex. if you don't have it for pleasure...you are lazy and not doing it right! and any man that argues otherwise...is a control freak!

When its between Husband and Wife - its okay for enjoyment. I don't know where you got the idea it was supposed to be a horrid experience.
As for recreational (just anybody and everybody) you know full well whats wrong with that, with your being raise Baptist and all.
However - religious or not - the casualness of sex spreads disease like HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases. Right now there are a vast number of casual sex practitioners who are not even aware they have AIDS (or other such diseases) and are continually spreading it.
There are people WHO KNOW they have AIDS and if asked will lie just so they can get their jollies. So if people want to play Russian Roulette with sex - that's their right - BUT - NOT THEIR RIGHT to condemn innocent people to death for the pleasure of selfish casual sex.
That is FACT not religious bias. There is something to be said for Christian sexual morality - assuming any practice it.
