It's the European way to write a 7, so as to not confuse it with a 1.

It helps to differentiate between the number 7 and the number 1 because depending on how the person writes, you may not be able to tell which number they have written. If you look at the typed version of the number 7 and 1, you can see there is a resemblance between the way they look. If your looking for a Satanic version of why a line is put through 7, I'm sure someone will make one up for you.

no real "significance" other than to further differentiate it from a 1. Some people write their 1's with the top part... bigger. Some write the 7 with a smaller top... part.
So, if you put the line in the middle of the 7, you can make sure they know it's a 7, and not a lazily written 1.

The tail of the # 7 originally extended down through the line we write on. The line through the tail originally represented that line when there was no line present.

The same reason for a letter Z with a line through it, so we don't confuse the sh*tty writing of some for 1, small L, z or Z or backward S, or any other array of poorly written stuff.

Religion & Spirituality? Unless you are worshipping the #7 with a line through it, then your question does not belong in this category. Have a nice day! =)

In Europe the number one is written as the West writes a number one.
In Europe it is necessary to write a seven with the line across it so it is not confused with a number one.
In America it is VERY TRENDY TO WRITE A ONE LIKE A WESTERN NUMBER ONE.....BUT A SEVEN LIKE A EUROPEAN SEVEN ......very confusing! Very trendy... shows the doer is a trend follower so probably rather uneducated.

Europeans do it that way. Also, weenified Americans do it that way, to show people how "cosmopolitan" they are or some crap. After all, if that's the way Europeans do it, then it is naturally superior.
