I think I am a little bit OCD. I was told that if anything like that interferes with my daily life I should seek help but I don't know if I'm there yet.
I ALWAYS have to double/triple check everything
Sometimes when I get really anxious or like....excited or even angry I get paranoid about things like leaving my oven on or not locking the door.

A few weeks ago I went to a movie and didn't have a minute of fun because I was convinced I didn't lock my front door. I had.

A week after that I almost set off the burglary alarm at work because I went back at 2 am to make sure I had locked the door. I had.

Just yesterday me and my boyfriend got into a fight because we were going to baseball game, we are like a block away and I made him turn around and take me back to our house because I convinced myself I hadn't turned off my straightener. I had but I lied to him and said that I did leave it on. I'm really not a lier and I feel horrible that I did.
I don't know what I should do.

I know, my mom and boyfriend think I'm just overreacting and they probably think I'm just looking for attention which makes me feel worse.
Counseling isn't cheap either you know?

Sure sounds like ocd. My son has is and 4% of the population of the world has it to some degree. It usually gets worse under stressful times but there is help out there. Medication helps but therapy should be included. He used to do the same thing. He now allows himself to check things, once and once only. He talks out loud to himself. "okay, I have to check the door to make sure it is closed. I am checking and it is closed and locked so now I can leave for work." If he has trouble, he just repeats, out loud. "I checked the door and I know that I locked it so I don't have to check it again." There are many books out there to read. See if you are like those people in the book. You probably are but you ARE NOT ALONE! He was like this when he was only 3 and is now 25. It takes time and hard, hard work to overcome it. Do not be ashamed. It is an illness that can be treated and is common. It is more common among people who suffered strep throat infections as children. See a doctor and do not feel guilty. This isn't something that you just decided to do with your time. This is something that happened to you but you can control it. Do not let it ruin your life. If you try it on your own, you will only feel worse about yourself and cause more stress and exacerbate your symptoms. Call a therapist or doctor today and start living your life! Look for the local chapter of NAMI. They can tell you where you can go for counseling, FREE! Support groups, based in most major hospitals usually charge a sliding fee scale, based on income. Drugs can be had, for nominal fee, directly from the pharmaceutical companies if you qualify.Your doctor fills out the papers, you pay a minimal fee for paperwork and the drugs are shipped directly from the manufacturer. There is help out there. Please don't wait. This is more than just a personality quirk. It can become totally debilitating. I have lived with this illness, as an observer, both treated and untreated. You figure out which is easier! Good luck.

I think whenever you are thinking you might need you counselling you definately need it. I do think it is interfering with your life. Can you look for a support group if you cannot afford counselling? Some of them are free. It shows that it is definately affecting your life from what you have described. I think it you sought help you could be happier and less anxious. You will have more time also.

Yeah, nip it in the bud and see someone now. Sounds like you have symptoms that aren't quite disabling, yet- but do interfere if you're making trips at 2AM and making your boyfriend turn around and go back.

Get on NAMI.org or NMHA.org and find the info. on the affiliates in your area. They will know what resources are in your community.

I do a lot of those things to. I go to a counselor and she said that I have Obsessive Compulsive Tendencies, which is like OCD. You might want to go to a counselor just to see what they have to say, but it probably isn't absolutely necessary. I just like going to see my counselor because it gives me a chance to talk to somebody about my problems without anybody judging me.

If YOU feel like something is making your life miserable, then you SHOULD seek help! There is nothing wrong with seeking professional help for things you feel are out of your control! Nobody is perfect!
