How long will people continue in their ignorance regarding the Immaculate Conception?
It is about Mary's conception---------------NOT about JESUS'.

Arggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhh.....even in your answers you do not 'get it'. The wording "IMMACULATE CONCEPTION" is a title for MARY. SHE is the immaculate conception. It has NOTHING to do with Jesus' birth other than it was a way for God to prepare a proper womb for him to be concieved in.......
"The Most Holy Virgin Mary was, in the first moment of her conception, by a unique gift of grace and privilege of Almighty God, in view of the merits of Jesus Christ, the Redeemer of mankind, preserved free from all stain of original sin." (Pope Pius IX, Ineffabilis Deus, 1854)

It was through Mary that Christ came to earth...through Mary's body that Christ received his. THe Church has discerned as true and therefore defined the doctrine that Mary was conceived in her mother's womb (through her parents having sex) and was preserved free from original sin through the merits of teh future redemptive act of Christ.
Mary needed salvation, but God allowed her to receive it before she was conceived, as she would bear His Son, and sin must not touch her even from the very beginning if she is to be a pure tabernacle for the Christ.
Makes sense to me.

Immaculate conception is a human label and idea. I appreciate the articulate answer of AMDG and all.....but the New Eve is the church - the Bride of Christ Himself. Eve was not Adam's mother and was in fact the first sinner- ask Paul.
The "sin lineage" if you will tho, was passed through the males, That is why the mention of "seed of a woman" was so unsettling in Genesis. The genius of God was already in play masterfully drawing out the plans for the great Redemption of His prize creation - mankind. Mary simply carried the child. Surrogate. His Conception was Immaculate. His life is unstained by the poison of self, satan, and sin. Mary was simply an obedient lover of God...like her older cousin Elizabeth. Jesus treated her as any good son would His mother, but no better. Never did He refer to her Deity.and even corrected those that tried. Read AMDG"s reference. In fact when she and His 5 or so brothers and sisters sought a private audience with Him he publicly stated that all who obeyed His Father were "family" as she was.
This is the sort of "scriptural quagmire" that is created when intellectuals reason without humility and genuine Faith. It was what Jesus had to confront on a daily basis at the Temple. Spiritual Pride is the greatest oxymoron in my observation.

The belief is that in order to be a vessel for Christ's birth, Mary had to be without sin, including original sin. Thus when Mary was conceived, it was done so by Immaculate Conception - no original sin.
Mary then conceived Jesus by the Holy Spirit and had a virgin birth.

Are you saying Mary was immaculately conceived? Born of a virgin? Where does it say this?
Just was the only one born of a virgin. Mary was not.
Thank you Mike M.
But even if Mary's mother was a virgin, was HER mother a virgin as well? What about HER mother? If at some point there was one not born of a virgin in her bloodline, you would have to admit she had original sin enter in through one of her male ancestors, right?
I get your "question". People refer to Jesus' conception as the immaculate conception, but it's not referring to that.
BUT..there is no scripture to back this up. A quote from a pope means nothing to me. He is a man. Show me some scripture please.

You know, Mary wasn't even a part of the Christian myths until they were trying to conquer the French. The French had such a strong Mother image in their religions, that the Christians just couldn't convince them without one in theirs.
Originally Christ was born of a stone - as that was closer to what some in the earliest days believed. The resurrection was also a strong part of an existing culture that felt the tribe was only as strong as the leader and so as long as the leader could remain young and healthy - and then later, survive an often staged death and resurrection ceremony - they could remain alive and in power.
The bottom line is that these details are hardly of the magnitude people make them out to be. In a vibrant culture the religion grows and adapts to is every changing existence over 2000 years, right?
Peace!

Mary was the Immaculate Conception, not because she was born without sin(we are all born with original sin), but because her mother, St. Anne, was supposed to be barron.

Here we go again!
Mary the earthly mother of Jesus has to be raised to Deity by the cult so she can be declared the Co-redeemer and be an equal with JESUS THE SAVIOUR.
The Cult stops at nothing.,

Actually, isn't the belief that both Mary and Jesus were conceived by virgins?

you will need to provide more facts before you expect people to change a belief that has been in place for about 1700 years (not 2000, since it was only formalized at the council of Nicea).
