They are in almost every grocery store parking lot in Texas. I have a big dent to prove it.

And that happened the day I got my new car!

Can't say about worldwide but it is an epidemic here in my area. Some parking lots are worse than others. The ones where it's worse don't have the cart corrals and people don't have anywhere to leave their carts, unless they want to walk all the way back to that particular store. Which can take quite some time in some lots.

Are abandoned shopping carts in grocery store parking lots a world wide epidemic?

Yes they are!!!

It seems that more and more homeless people are disappearing!
All that is left behind are their carts!!!

If it were the "Ted Turners, Eddie Murphy's or some of the Bush's", disappearing... there would be an immediate investigation into this....this...alien abduction thing!

We don't have shopping carts in our grocery store parking lot because the parking lot is on an incline. We HAVE to return them or they'll go rolling in to other cars or out into the street. It's so bad that most customers usually say, "Yes," when the cashier asks if they need assistance to the car (unless they brought someone else with them).

I don't know of any grocery stores that abandon their carts in their own parking lot. (they always get collected sometime during the week)

carts dumped in Poorer neighborhoods or places where homeless people congregate now that is problem in many western cultures but not in a lot of eastern ones. In eastern cultures the stores often have no carts and will not even bag your food. you bring your own shopping bag from home.

Just another example of laziness...usually there is a cart corral within meters.
And did you know that most companies no longer take legal responsibility for damage from errent carts to your vehicle?

No, their increasingly rapid reproduction rates just make up for the declining birth rates in developed countries.
