Our town held a Music Festival. Local bands paid an entry fee. It was free to enter and watch, but they sold soda and beer to make more money.

Get your elected leaders to contact the state and federal representitives of your area and see what type of grants you can apply for. You would be surprised how much state and federal money is given out yearly just for this type of project, my county did something similar for a 1 to 1 grant. (If we put in 100 dolloars the state matched it)

Then you can have fund raisers such as family day pic nics, bar-b-qs, have rides and boths to raise money. If it is for non-profit, you can qualify for discount advertising for these events as well.

I don't know what would be involved but as I was perusing through the South Western Bell Phone book today I just happen to notice one of their entire pages was devoted to just what you are asking about. "If you or your non-profit organization want to make good money contact us" They said there was no selling involved. Might be worth a phone call. Good Luck. DM

You could look into a bake sale. You could look into a raffle. Mayor for a day as a prize? How about a "Taste of _________" with local businesses donating something towards the museum.
