The flush water takes it from your house out to the street where it joins with all the other house poop. Eventually it ends up at a collection point run by your local sanitation department. At this place the non biodegradable things are separated out and various enzymes are added to breakdown and sanitize the waste so that it can be dumped into the ocean or river. In some places the water is so clean it can be drunk.

If my memory serves me well, it goes something like this. From your house it goes into the sewer system which eventually gets to the sewage plant. There it is separated liquid/slurry and sludge. They introduce enzymes and bacteria that eat and process the sewage. If I remember correctly, one of the byproducts of this is oxygen. At any rate, this is done till it is around 4 ppb (4 parts per billion. ) or something along that line. Which means if you look at it, it is clean enough to be put into the river so that the fish can feed off of the bacteria and the rest will go through further cleaning naturally. It will eventually end up evaporating and returning as rain, or get sucked back into the water treatment plant to be made into potable, drinkable, water.

when I was a child my mom told me there was a critter down there that eats it but now that I am older and have been in the basement a few times I know my brother saves them in jars which he labels with date and time

if u poop in a porta-potty- it goes into the bottom then its goes wherever.
if u poop in your home- it goes into your septic tank
