Good question. I've actually heard some people get pretty annoyed about this.
But on the other hand, when you get right down to it, the most zealous fundamentalist has absolutely no idea what happens after death, and is just using faith to bring meaning and morality to his life at best, and living out of fear of eternal suffering at worst. An agnostic, from my perspective, is just someone who's willing to admit that he doesn't know.

It is impossible to prove either position, as for me, I wouldn't bow to any God that gave the "rules" to one set of people and then turned and gave different sets to everyone else. Beyond that, the Bible itself has more holes in it than an arm of swiss cheese. I think the teachings of Christ, to some degree (and we are assuming those are actually Christ's teachings here as some of those contradict each other) are basically good, but I tend to lean towards a Taoist philosophy. If more people would deny faith (the act of convincing your self you believe something you don't believe) then the world would be a better place.

We are starting to see that the Universe could be in an infinate series of birth and death. Where there is no beginning for the cycle and there is no end. If there is no beginning, then a creator is not needed. And since the universe is expanding at an accelerated rate, it will go on forever.

I'm a strong believer in science and the scientific method. There hasn't been any conclusive evidence, that I'm aware of, for or against the existence of a devine entity.

In reality, they do believe one way or another. If they have not modified their behavior to match what some particular god is said to demand, then they have implicitly rejected all such gods, merely leaving open the intellectual possibility of some other unknown and irrelevant god.

I'm not an agnostic but my husband is. His explanation is that he's never seen any evidence to support one way or another and that he's rather keep his options open.
