My 11 week old kitten and I were just playing with a toy on a string. It was quite wild and then it was panting. The same thing happened yesterday. I am due again at the vet in about a month and will ask to be sure then, but until then is there something I should be doing? I know it is just probably hot and all worked up but a fear I have is that when I go to have it neutered it won't be strong enough for the anesthesia.
I did try to give him water but he wouldn't drink it and it meowed when we stopped playing(but I think it's BECAUSE I stopped playing).

Other than this, my cat is pretty normal except for all the meowing.

He truly may have been worked up.
He has since taken to lying on the cool bathroom and laundry room floors.
I've just never seen this before. It's kinda funny.

My cat has been playing both times that this happened and rather vigorously at that.

It's tuckered out. It's summer time. It's hot. The little kitten got wrapped up in the moment, and played itself out. JEEZ . . . I hope to god you don't have kids, because they probably can't even SNEEZE without your calling in a specialist.
YOU need to unwind.

We have four cats.... one of them, when he was a very small kitten, was exactly the same way when he played. He would go crazy.. playing with a cat toy... string.. chasing and play fighting with his brother... and running around the house. He would go and go.. and at first, we didn't notice the heavy panting.. and it was heavier panting than is brother.
We had to get them into the vet anyway so we asked him about it and he determined that this particular cat had/has a touch of asthma. I have asthma myself so I wasn't too worried and we asked the vet what we should do. He suggested we keep an eye on him, not let him play to vigorously, and make sure he rests. He suggested as well that he might grow out of it.
Well, he's now about 7 and he rarely has too much trouble. He plays pretty heavily with his brother and the cat toys and he's fine.
So, keep an eye on him, mention it to the Dr.. maybe make a point of writing down when it happens and what he was doing and make him rest when he gets really rangy.

Cats like dogs pant to cool themselves and to catch their breath.
Cats do not like fresh cold water from the tap but more around room temperature. So if giving fresh water put the faucet more in the middle than towards cold. She could be meowing to let you know the water isn't right.
Cats only meow to humans cause they realize we are a vocal species. If a cat is meowing at you it means it wants or needs something. Sometimes just follow the cat and they will go near what they want changed or fixed.
Could be food, water, litter too dirty, want to play, bed might be wrong, etc.
Look into one of the cat water fountains as this is the best way for cats to drink and it keeps the water cleaner and more fresh since it moves. Plus cats are drawn naturally to running water.
Sounds like you got a cat like my Wesa.....if I start to play with her it doesn't end until she says it ends otherwise I get non stop meowing. She'll even bring her toys to me and drop them in my lap to get my attention.
Try a few milk jug rings, cats go nuts over those

My cats have only panted when coming home from the vet after the car got all hot and the air conditioner had not yet cooled the car off. Once the cat cooled off my cats stopped panting. So I would say that your cat is hot. Cats don't pant very often like dogs do they only do when under stress and over heated.

You need to contact your vet, this is not common behavior. Kittens only pant in two occaions that I've seen, Upper Respitory infection, and heart murmur. I had a wonderful kitten, smart as all get out, but was born with a defective heart. He lived to be a little over a year old. And the Vet had only given him 2 weeks when they found it. I tried to make every day special for that baby. I still miss him.

It may be because you got him all worked up. But I would definitely discuss with your vet. If it is a persistent thing, especially if he doesn't seem to recover quickly after play, or pants just when he is laying around, get him checked immediately.
And it goes without saying that if you are really concerned, go to the vet tomorrow. If for nothing else than peace of mind. Good luck, and I hope your kit is fine!

Our kitten is 10 months old and loves to play. The typical romp never gets him too out of breath, but occasionally, we let him go pretty crazy on his feather string toy and he pants for at least 10 seconds afterwords, sometimes a few minutes. Anyone out there who can jump 6 times their height in the air and not be out of breath is the one who needs to get medical attention in my opinion. Our last cat was the same way when she got too crazy.

You are exhausting him with too much play for too long. This is July; it summertime. I've had 15 cats and only had one of them pant and it was due to heat exhaustion. Seriously, cats do not pant like dogs unless they are extremely over heated and cannot cool off and breathe. As it is, their body temperature is naturally about 103 degrees. It could cause nerve damage or even result in death.

Nothing is wrong with the kitten. It's hot and cooling down. My cats pant all the time even the small ones and they are fine

It will drink water if it needs it, but yeah i would be concerned for it being a kitten and all. Definitely mention it to the vet, might not hurt to call the vet eary and ask what you should do.
